Well I'd love to have the chimps at Halfrauds fit the new battery but in the absence of a low-loader I'll struggle to get it there  (No one to help me jump-start the car during the day) It'll wait til the weekend - I hope, how long until the alarm goes off
From my experience and mine drains on the third day, the alarm doesn't go off! I assume because the power loss is gradual as apposed to being cut by said criminal to steal it.

I've also bought and wouldn't be without one of their 3 in 1 booster packs! And even me with my arthritic hands can jump boost my own car, it cost me ÂŁ69 and works a treat each and every time I use it. It also comes with a massive in-built light and an air compressor for doing your tyres if someone lets them down over night. great piece of kit and a must for any household with cars outside over the winter months. :coolsm:

They're normally ÂŁ105 but currently they're reduced to ÂŁ70 and well worth every penny from my experience. it's also paid for itself a bit as well as being winter I've help my dad and two of my other mate, including the wife Supra get started due to them having flat batteries during these colder months. :D Here is the link for it anyway. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_180830_langId_-1_categoryId_165719

OK, latest development. The Halfords HB054 is 30mm wider than the OEM battery. We can wedge it in but it's hard up against the hard-pipe on the left and the wiring harness into the fusebox on the right. Ideas?

Battery relocation kit not an option, before anyone suggests it ;)

Do I assume that there is less room in the Evo 8 bonnet area than the Evo 9, as my Halfords HB054 has a fair amount of room either side. I will wait till the morning and take a photo of how mine is and then you can compare.

is there a 3 digit code on the original car, the 054 is the usual replacement

I have a contact for batteries, who supplies the local businesses trade :), if i have the code he might be able to match something up for you

Got a new batt for my 6 (don't know if 8 is the same) a few months ago from www.electroquestuk.com. Guy really knew what he was talking about. 390 cca 45ah (Micra is around 330 I think) - same size as standard and comes with spacers to allow either the small or large post fittings to be used.

ÂŁ51 delivered the next day. Well pleased. Had the same problem with the 054 on my tray - too wide/

Battery code EXIDE EX 154P

OEM Battery was Yuasa GS 44B20L with dimensions of 200x130x200mm (lwh).

Googling has confirmed that the current equivalent is the 054. However the Halfords HB054 bought today is 230x130x200mm.

Yuasa's own Professional 054 (listed as fitting the Evo VII) is 196x127x220mm which will fit with the adjustment for height on the bracket.

So it would appear that the 054 is not standard in it's dimensions, hence the confusion here.

Paul's going to try and get something from his battery supplier at work, if no success there will drop you a PM Stu :smthumbup Thanks for the link, Terry, might give that a try as well. Why is nothing ever simple?

no probs, this fella will deliver to your door, and even fit it for you ;) assuming he covers southport, if not he will definately drop it off at mine, as i've bought a fair few batteries of all sizes of him

If you get stuck, i can give him dimensions and see what he comes up with

i had the same problem with the battery on my 8 fq300 went to halfords and their battery was to big(luckily i measured it before i went) ended up getting one from my local dealer as they had stock in and were actually cheaper than halfords(for what they said was equivalent)
i think my local dealer said it was for the rs model- slightly smaller than the normal gsr one????

If you've not bought one yet, Varta Blue top model 540-126-033, 4 year warranty ÂŁ41. Same size as the original Mitsi battery, so no fitment issues.
Tenner a year for a hassle free branded battery, can't argue with that at all! "Another top tip from our MLR Library, GrayW!" :smthumbup

Ha, curse of the 260 maybe strikes again for me.
Used the advice above and ordered a Varta Blue top model 540-126-033 for a good price, with 4yr warranty.
However, on my Evo VIII 260 (i.e. Euro spec car), that is not the right choice :-(

Main issue is that it has the smaller diameter Japanese-style battery posts, whereas my car has the usual larger diameter for UK cars. I did check that the plus and minus were the right way round for the car, which they were, but missed that vital point.

Varta battery is quite a bit more narrow, so would not fit in the sleeve of the 260 battery tray, though that could easily be left out. Height and width looked spot on.

Guess I'll get either Halfrauds 054/154 option, or Yuasa battery (which is twice the price, but the correct unit)
