Try it!?

I really wish we head a "once and for all" thread that we collectively update with our knowledge/findings....for example......

Original ROM ID
93660005
Car Description
03 UK VIII FQ-300
Compatible Code/Upgrades
90550001 (Tephra5.1) Valet Mode, Launch, Dual Map, Knock Indication, NLTS, ICS upgrades
Known Issues/Pre-requisites
Disable periphery 0 and 2, 2nd Clutch switch required for NLTS

I am happy to maintain if people post/pm their info....

BTW, In answer to your question xpro, it is quite possible there is an option to change. Some EDM cars are as per JDM spec.....

Roms are interchangable yes, but it's best practice not to do it.
It's ok checking the new features work, such a NLTS, valet mode etc, but what about other functions of the ECU that are happening?

As an example, USDM cars lack some of the features of JDM cars, such as AYC, SAS etc and have some additions such as second rear O2. So you will find a lot of code will be missing from the rom, or extra code added.

For what it worth, I told Tephra will be releasing a JDM VIII rom very soon.

Why don't you do it, Jellyhead? :) I'm sure people would post up their info once you got it started.

The only problem is that it's difficult to define what is compatible and what isn't. Some roms may well start a car and seem fine, but who knows what's going on behind the scenes?

As grayw pointed out to me the other day, isn't the 90550001 rom from a VII RS, if so, what is happening to the AYC and ACD signals if you put it on an VIII GSR/FQ?

I certainly concur on the best practice and questions raised by model variation :) - so long as people are made aware and 'informed' I think it's still worthy?

I think I'm right in saying quite a few of us have now successfully interchanged ROM ID's?. I have checked as best possible in logging and verified with lots of driving that things are working as they should..... testing SAYC is fun ;) I have to be honest and say I cannot guarantee it's 100% - but I feel comfortable and at ease with my experience and logging data.

That I am aware of, there are known workarounds or reported issue covering most eventualities. For me, Yes - I have to make changes to suit my exact car spec - you either accept this - with knowledge and info available, or wait (and pray) for Tephra to find more hours in the day!

Obviously there are going to be exceptions to any rule or guide.

Creating a list on possible rom changes sounds good in theory, but for standard roms this is not really necessary, What benifit would it provide?
It's only modified ones, that Tephra creates that people what to run. From his list of released roms, the only ones to run JDM cars are 96530006 and 90550001.
I'm all for trying new things, but I'm struggling to see the benifit of swapping one normal rom for another.
With only 2 other Tephra JDM patches available, the job is small to collate a list.

I think it's worth doing just so people can see which rom came from which car.

Whether they're compatible or not is a side issue, but a list of potential swaps would be useful.

I think it would be interesting to see which roms relate to which car.

You keep seeing all these rom numbers being bandied about, but they mean very little to me, unless they happen to be one of the few I've looked at.
