hi guys, i have removed a set of h4 6000k hid lights with all wiring etc from an old volvo i had. kit is a universal plug and play kit.

fitted it to my pug 306 as evo is off the road for winter rebuild.

guess what i now have dipped beam when stalk on full beam and other way round.

any ideas. the only thing is i dont think the earths are brilliant and also the wiring plug that connects to the original h4 bulb harness is the only wiring that could be wrong as every other part is male to female and female to male plug respectively.

is there any thing that i ould of missed or done wrong as been bugging me all day and cant seem to fix it

surely when dipped beams on, one goes to 12V+ and when full beam another goes to 12V+ and one always is earth?

Swap the two 12v+ wires?

OR

At least you know the lamps are working ok? They have dipped and main beam?

Drive with your main beam on the stalk = dipped beams come on?

Nevermind arseing around with wiring, just accept that you have to have the stalk saying opposite!
Is it worth the hassle?

Do you have 2 ballasts or 4 ?

Surely if you switch the stalk to main beam, find which wire on the car goes to 12V+

I assume the crazy French have green/yellow earth?

These two wires must connect to the ballast for the main beam.

When you revert to dipped beam, the other (3rd) wire must now go to 12V+ and the previous one for main beam must drop to 0V.

Now connect the dip beam 12V+ and your earth to your dip beam ballast.

I can't think how else to put this.....

You have one wire always at 0V - the earth - or negative terminal of battery.

there are two other wires - one will be 12V+ when dip beam on - the other will be 12V+ when the main beam is on.

Connect the one that goes to 12V+ when dip beam is on to ballast for dip beam.

Connect the one that goes to 12V+ when main beam is on to ballast for main beam.

Earth goes to both ballasts.

If you can't follow that - get to an autospark or a pal who is handy.

i have 2 ballasts, so one ballast is dipped beamand one is main beam. so if i got them the wrong way round then that could be why. the ballasts have the same wires coming out so how would i know which is which. i just dont know why the fitting would be different from the previous car they were on. it is an h4 kit so dipped and main on the same bulb. when removing from the other car i didnt seperate any of the kit so should be just wire up earths, positive to battery and wiring plug to original headlight plug on one side only
