Hi i have a secondhand evo 3 gearbox, will it go into my evo 2 without any problems or do i have to change rear diff to a 3 ? and what about tranfer box can i use my evo 2 ? many thanks.

the e 1&2 have the same running gear, the e3 has different gear ratio on gearbox, transfer box and rear diff.So if you were to use a e2 box with e3 transfer and rear diff the front wheels will be turning at a different speed to rear wheels,so would cause big probs i guess after a while.

I am confused now, how can the transfer box and diff turn at a different rate to the gearbox. Surely the gearbox is what turn the transfer box and rear diff so if the gear box is changed then that would automatically change the transfer box and rear diff would it not???

I have been told transfer box on evo 1&2 tooth count is is 22/24 tooth count and evo 3 is 27/29 so if thats the case the tran box is diffrent also if you do a modle comparison on this site between evo 2 & 3 it tells gear ratio etc, it shows that the final drive ratio is diffrent between 2 & 3 ,so i am also confussed aswell i may end up changing the lot to be 100% sure dont want to cause any damage.

Evo I-III rear diffs are the same, the problem arises with the final drive in the Evo III gearbox which is different to the Evo I-II. Because of this the reduction ratio in the Evo III transfer box was changed to match the rear diff. Evo I-II transfer ratio is 1.090 (24/22) and Evo III ratio is 1.074 (29/27).
So if you want to use the Evo III gearbox you need the Evo III transfer box too ;)
