Dodson clutch and heated sump upgrade WOW

I had a Dodson clutch and heated sump upgrade carried out by Gary at CPP and the difference it has made is unbelievable. :naughty:

The oem clutch was ok but due to power upgrades I decided to change it, the gear changes are more positive than with oem clutch.

Even in normal drive mode the car gear changes feel smoother. :smthumbup

Hopefully in a month or so when the other upgrades are completed I will get it mapped to release a few more ponies :naughty:

Think it's best to pm you or you could ask Gary at CPP I would probably get in trouble for putting prices on here

What's the reasoning behind the heated sump? I'm assuming it is to get the temperature to optimum as quickly as possible, and that it turns off after that happens? Does it heat the oil very quickly?

I ask because I've seen aftermarket cooling advertised for the SST with comments suggesting they are essential to the longevity of the gearbox. I've also seen larger capacity alloy sumps advertised which also aim to reduce temperatures, so, all in all, it seems counterproductive to heat the gearbox oil given that cooling it seems to be just as (if not more) important.

Could you also drop me a PM with the details of your Dodson clutch and the relevant costs? Did you fit an upgraded set, with new seals, as I see there are different plate sets available depending on BHP?

I'm not a gearbox expert but what can say is when cold from first start the gearbox is pretty horrible to drive :shake:

So heating the transmission fluid up via your engine coolant system helps warm up to optimum temp faster helps the gearbox perform better

It will also cool the transmission fluid as well because it uses the engine coolant system unlike the sst transmission cooler which only cools the fluid.

I may be wrong on the above but that is how I understand it

What I can say is the difference between the oem clutches and the Dodson clutches in my car is considerable:smthumbup:

There wasn't much wrong with my oem clutch which I still have but the gear changes now with Dodson is a hell of a lot better.

I will pm you what I had and cost

It may be worth asking a tuner they will probably be able to give better answers than me

Thanks Mike, that's really interesting, as I didn't know it was linked to the engine cooling system. I got your PM, thanks.

My car is a daily driver with a lot of short journeys, school runs, station runs etc. so I've been wondering about ways to ease wear and tear on the drivetrain. I do think now that it warrants further investigation. Cheers! :smthumbup
