not the best start to evo ownership

bought an evo 4 last week and it has now developed a light bottom end rumble at 3000 rpm ish

just had it up on the ramp and there is about 2-3mm of end float in the crankshaft.

i take it this is not good!

is it new crank/engine time?

any help/experiences/advice would be great.

maybe i should have bought a 5/6

:(

Unfortunately crankwalk is quite common on the Evo 1-4, there is a large thread here which gives details.

It would probably be cheaper to source and fit a latter Evo engine (5->) than rebuild your own one.

evo

the blocks are the same but you will need to change the ecu fuel pump injectors and regulator for fuelin as they run higher presure not the cheapest option as iv found out
im in the process of rebuildin mine at moment found crank on ebay complete with shells and at rite price if i was you and dependin on money you wana spend look on here for people who have fitted stroker kits and buy there spares to replace your crank n just buy new shells

I actually snapped the crank in my IV about 2 month ago, brought a crank with shells but after the engine was stripped there was two much internal damage to try and replace the crank. So i went down the route of fitting a VI engine instread. If your interested the crank is at Pennine Way Garage im sure they could send it to you, do a google search for there web site.
