Hi guys, don't often use the A/C in my Evo X since everytime I do the idle gets a bit rough and occasionally drops every 30-45 seconds, not a problem when cruising at speed, but annoying when driving very slow, since it jolts etc. Not really acceptable from a new car worth almost 40K. Also there seems to be a rather loud and noticable clicking sound from the engine bay when the a/c is on..

1. Does anyone else with an evo have this issue with the idle when using a/c and if so what was the resolution?

2. Has anyone heard this clicking sounds whilst using the a/c. Probably only noticable when outside the car when the engine is running and a/c is on.

Cheers

It is the ac pump cycling in and out.

agreed, the click is just the clutch on the a/c compressor, but the uneven revs are much more noticable than in any car I've had before though, most cars are set up to run smoothly with a/c on with little fluctuation, compressor on or off, X doesn't seem to want to stick to a constant rev at all with a/c on, actually revving itself over 1200 rpm sometimes with your foot off the accelerator pedal, so I just generally leave it off unless I'm steamed up :) No big deal though :)

Thanks for responces - yeah most cars I've ever driven don't seem to have any issues when driving with a/c on.. its quite annoying! I don't use a/c unless I really have to, maybe a dealer re-flash will become available to deal with it?? not sure if that would be able to correct it...

I think dealer is to key to the whole equation here. If i were you and believed it was abnormal then i'd ask a dealer to look at it and if they said it was normal i's then ask for a demonstration of another Evo X running the A/C. May just be a case of a bad A/C map or there could be another issue. (throttle body or stepper motor related) Switching the A/C on in a modern car should not make it more difficult to drive. If it does then something is not right.
