When switched on the PC today had some Microsoft Windows Logon errors, clicked on Report, PC kept running slow, installed Panda Internet Security found some files/programms I never knew about, such as; killapps.exe (hacking tool) and also some cookies. Did a scan, nothing found so I decided to re-boot, when running up I got a black screen with something like "Invalid BOOT.INI C:\Windows\boot.ini not found".

Any ideas please? I do not wish to go to the format process, since I got things I dod not wish to lose.

Thanks in advice.

Get it to a specialist, troubleshooting something like this over the internet is not a good use of anyone's time.
Also did found attacks from some IPs. Been talking with a mate and what happened seems to be related to killapps.exe, runned in safe mode and haven't found anything such as killapps*, seems panda removed it.

Will try to give a repair and for some online scans and see how it goes.

Thanks.

certain OEM installs dont always use a boot.ini.

It just lists the partition of which wankdows is installed on..

Its not even much of a problem and 9 times out of 10 you can ignore it unless youve got a complicated partition table. But do get rid of the spyware.

you could always create a new boot.ini file in c:\ and fill it with something like this (provided windows is installed on 1st partition of 1st drive):

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
