The early EVO's look very similar to the Impreza - The people not in the know at work think my EVO 1 is one - Not that I'm bothered really as Impreza's are great cars too. I don't even bother to tell them it's an EVO as they wouldn't understand.
Ha tell me about it, when I went to have my exhaust fitted the guy commented on how they had fitted an exhaust to one just the other day then said it is a subaru aint it. Went to parts supplier who advertises mainly for rally parts, parked outside the shop in clear view and was asked if it was the sti.. When I told them no politely and said it was an evo4, I got oh I didn't even know they did a 4 I thought they started at 6's.Hmmm rally speacialists.
LOL at Moby i thought they only started at 6s mmmmm
Most people generally dont have a clue and most people think my cars an impreza
I think Mitsubishi are seriously at fault here for not advertising and making a big drama out of winning four world championships in a row.
Wait and see the big hoo haa song and dance Subaru will make this year after the ginger whinge won the WRC. Subaru are much better advertisers. Look at all the guff they spout about winning the JD Power Survey etc. etc.
I could never understand why so many people knew about Subaru and not Mitsubishi when the Lancers have been kicking a55 over the last 5 years.
Its very disappointing, but hey, i dont care. I know I have the the best car, for the money, on the road. ( and their not common as muck like a certain other manufacturer )
your right in saying that subaru are better advertisers but isn't it better owning something that most people dont know about. i know i'd much prefer to have an evo over a scooby not only because evos kick their a$$es but because they are pretty damn rare in comparison. you see scoobys all over the place but are lucky to see 1 evo a week............unless you own one
S'funny.....when I pull into petrol stations and the like in my caged up, AP big braked, comp suspensioned, zorsted, duction kitted, gauged up like a fighter piloted cockpit, harnessed, AP organic comp clutched, internal engined modded, bigger turboed, 18 wheeled, lowered,......P1.........they ususlly say...... wow... a scooby....so much better than those thingy's.....what are they called....erm.....EVO'y cars ....
I've started running...............
LOL at Mellow, I like your style
I have seen a few P1's but mainly at dealerships sitting around not being sold
Half the reason I went for the Evo was that Scoobies are way too common now. I was going to get a Scooby way back when they were a rare sight but I wouldn't touch one now.
I can't say anyone has confused my Evo with a Scooby yet perhaps they are a more educated bunch around my way
Well said Simon,Mellow is going to be at Oulton Park, where it appears he will be the only Imprezza........
Should be a fun day!
I have never been asked if my car is an Imprezza, maybe because it is a TME WRC ,but I do get admiring comments from people who know there cars ,Im sure Scooby owners dont get the same attention, the Imprezza certainly doesn't stand out in a crowd, because it is not an Evolution just a modded road car that comes in many confusing states of tune, wearing many different badges, mainly with bolt on performance parts fitted by Prodrive. There has been some exceptions in the past ,but that was then ,when my car was standard I was raced by a new P1 and a STi left them both for dead, just no contest ,Personally I would'nt want one even if they were free, and judging by the amount of unsold stock that the dealers have maybe they soon will be.
Now come on girls .......my P1 isn't standard and most certainly DOES stand out, however, I must agree that our marque of car has become a very common site on our roads, more importantly they have become very affordable, especially to the younger end of the market place, which I'm not sure is a good thing, a K,L or M reg scoob can be bought for as little as £5k !!!! methinks we'll not see an EVO at such a price.....not yet anyway.
The last time I was at Oulton I followed and caught (quite easily) one of your Blue Ralliart RC prepared to 380bhp EVO's and whilst I struggled on the straights with nothing between us, I disposed of my chinese friend in the twisties....LOL......
So, for all your girlies who'll be at Oulton, take it easy with me and my common car, no bullying, laughing or offering of a tow........unless any of you know different
P.S. I'll probably own an EVO as well within the next 12 months.....I need a second runabout.......honest
A P1! Is that not YET ANOTHER of Subaru's (or Prodrive's) incarnations to try to make that Scooby different from the others? Let me think...............WRX, Sti, RB5, 22B, P1..........
I'd guess at least £10k of mods!? Please don't try to be individual in a Scoob, it's a double negative! It's simple physics: Scoob x no mods |EQU| common as sh*t, and slow.
Scoob x (any) mods |EQU| common as sh*t and faster.
Evo x no mods |EQU| superb individual car and fast
Evo x (any) mods |EQU| awesome machine!
I presume you have a sense of humour, judging by your reply. You need it
Come on guys, Mellows a great chap, very well known on Scoobynet and will i`m sure be a great asset to the MLR
Mellow, silly question mebbe, but have you driven an Evo?? (i`ve heard of the cars you`ve owned but that another story....) Having recently sold my Scoob ( decat/induction etc. ) and bought an Evo6, i have to say ...... why the hell i never went for the Scood in the first place is beyond me!
First day of owning my new car, kids at local shop asked if it was an Impreza, then next door neighbour asked if it was made by the same company as it had the same bodyshell!!? Beat the hell owta me too!
pondi.........Subaru are very aggressive on the marketing front, as you rightly say there are differing models but mostly under the same guise, however, I do believe that like most cars there are always one or two that do stand out from the rest, namely the P1 and the 22B......slightly overpriced..... maybe....but compared to what .....I dont know....I've thrown a further £10 - £13k at mine to make it both individual and a very well sorted motor, be my guest at a track day of your choosing and lets see if I can help curb your gentile ignorance ....enough said on the matter now methinks
Rich.....thanks for your kind words, two great marques, two great sites eh !.I've never driven an EVO but am due over at Warrender's this week and may ask the question
barry, if the 19th's anything like this morning I think we'll all be figure skating not driving
Jon,.....Mellow Yellow |EQU| owning a cashmere yellow STi vers.6. 18 months ago (I know......I know.... )
