Could any one (hh6) tell me what is wrong with my e 6 gsr?

going to work this morning i travelled 5 of my 12 mile journey like normal , no problems at all , then the car started to play up .
just driving along doing about 50mph (restriced limit road works)and the head lamps would go out for a second and the radio/aircon would also go off , and the car would joult and the engine light would come on ?

when i come to a junction the car stalls and for around a second there is no lamps/power indicated on the dash then all the warning lamps will come back on and the car will start ?

I am currently waiting for a 'speedo head sensor ' to be fitted (warranty job so waiting for the paper work to get around before the work can comence ) Do you think this could be a cause ???
this problem was diagnosed end of december and car has been ok since , apparantly this only controls emissions ?

also does any one think it could possably be an imobiliser problem , power cut off ??

any help grate fully accepted
Regards
Dafydd

p.s will not be able to get to dealers till satarday at the earlyist , then a week monday , but would like it solved before then if i could

Turn your aircon off and see if it still happens, sound to me like you may have a fault somewhere that is causing short circuit when the aircon tries to come on.

Theory comes from my car when it is set on ECO ...when it cuts in, the headlights actually dim for a second, then go back to normal, and this continues all the time the air con is turned on, due to the load it takes. Now if i had say a motor that was shorting down to earth it would take so much more load that it would be possible for the lights to go really dim, though i`d expect the aircon fuse to blow if that was the case.

Just a theory :)

I had the same problem as described a few weeks ago when I replaced my slowly dying battery with a new one from Halfords.

It turns out that the new one was a complete 'duffer' that was shorting across the cells under load. I got Halfords to swap the battery and it has run faultlessly since.

Get your battery checked. I sure that Halfords would do it FOC if you went to see one of their branches.

Dafydd,

There have been a couple of similar problems reported on here, it's worth a search. I think at least 1 was definitely connections - even though they looked alright. HH6 might provide a better answer.

Dafydd,

My new battery was exactly the same as yours. It had 12.7 volts and the alternator was charging OK. The battery must be checked with a proper battery tester (under load) to see if it can provide the necessary oomph ! Testing the voltage across the terminals is not enough.

My battery was so bad that the car was cutting out, engine light etc... Once it stalled it was impossible to restart it without jumping it.

Get it tested and let us know how you get on.

GWADD,
cheers m8 will have it tested again ,
when i came out to my car tonight in work , the central loking did not work properly (no power)and when i tryed to start her nothing happened and the lights on the dash were very weak (and interior light ) but there was more than enougth power to run the head lamps on main beam ?

i tryed a few more times to start her .......nothing ,thought she needed a jump ! so rang one of my work mates who was still in the factory , to see if he had any jump leads ..
he had none but knew there was some in the works van , before i went to get the keys from security i tryed it once more turned the key the dash lights came on dim again then all of a sudden came on normal???
after reseting the imobiliser she started ok (and again 15 mins later in the shell garage )

but every time i had to stop on the way home the engine was hunting between 1500rpm and 2000rpm ?

does any one think my idle control stepper motor could also be at fault?

will get a new battery on the weekend and see how she is .
