So after loosing 6th gear selection I decided to get hold of a another replacement 6 speed.
I know 5 speed are strong etc but I use on motorways and don't want hassle and expense of 5 conversion.

Is there anything I should/could do before installing to perhaps extend its life?
Dipping? Cleaning?

Thoughts.."

Guessing he's talking about the rear main seal.

Probably worth investigating why you lost 6th gear selection on the old box - may be a reasonably cheap/easy fix and then sell the box.

Ben, you've seen and know my old car ( my old friends and enemy I should say ). Have changed two 6 speed boxes on it and kind of regret not going 5 speed. It's more durable for that sort of car. Clive did my brothers gt whole transmission and did the 5th longer, whilst it'll never be like oem 6th I think it's still ok especially if you calculated cost of 6 speed box, fitting etc . You never know what you're getting with second hand box , trust me as I've had bad Experiance
