So the prices of Evo's are on the rise, but at what price do you think it's all got a bit silly now, so i'll look at buying something different?
I'm a person that buys cars to get in and drive, yes I look after them, pamper and polish them etc but I love using them the most. So obviously i'm not interested in the investment side of things.
So I love MK1 and 2 RS Escorts, but there is no way I think they're worth 10k+ for one as a car to use because lets face it it's only an Escort.... Cosworths I would probably also stop at 10k for stock cars too and for me I always thought the Escorts were just what they are and that's a saph with a fancy escort body welded on. Don't get me wrong I love the cars I've mentioned, but I would struggle to think they're worth more than 10k to me personally.
So now Evo's, I would like to one day own a white TME, I do like red ones too, but they've already gone way past what I think they are worth and now i'm seeing other colours trying to go the same way. My absolute top line for a TME would be 15k, after that the dream is over, I would just have to be happy with what I've got.
So investment aside, and as a car to use what would you pay for the Evo of your choice if you were buying one today?

A car is for getting you from A to B as quickly as possible so I wouldn't pay a premium for any car. I make my money from my work so I can buy something I enjoy driving. Having an "investment" sitting in my garage while I F5 Auto Trader rubbing my hands together like a grubby Scrooge is of no interest to me at all.

There is a nice MR320 for sale @ 13k on here. Big Bang for the buck, that's where my monies would go, even condsidered selling the M5 and buying it.

This is kind of why I went for the evo X SST, there was a few other factors too. I actually wanted a 9, but the price increases on the 9 over the last few years just to me made them expensive for a daily, 10ish year old car

The 10, especially the sst, seems to give you more for less in the evo world

I can only agree with you, and for me anything past 15k for these older cars for a toy like my 7 is would just not be an option as I already look at what I've got as being an expensive ornament, so double it and it would probably make me ill.

That makes sense Stu and if I got bored of my 7 and the prices of mak's had gone past 15k then maybe a more user friendly 10 would be an option or i'd have to look elsewhere....

Had my six for 3 And a half years now.
Paid just under 7k for it.
Been rollercoaster ride.
If I ever sold it I don't think I'd buy another with prices rising.
But I can't see me parting company with it ever as I love it:smthumbup

This all comes down to how much you can afford.

If I made half the money I do now then my choice Evo would cost half of what I am willing to pay, if I made double then same goes the other way. These are all approximates as if earned more or less my other outgoings would change too.

Your absolute top money for a TME is £1K less than mines is up for sale for, however if one had say only 20K miles on clock and in better condition than mine, naturally it would be worth more.

I think a lot of people would benefit from looking at increasing values from a different perspective. Yes some will now buy cars in the hope of making money on them, but for the majority of us it's an opportunity to drive the car you want without factoring in the cost of depreciation, essentially making running an Evo less expensive. I love using mines as much as I can too, however I like to look after it and only use in summer months, the fact it may be rising in value wouldn't stop me using it, in fact I'd probably use my car more.

What will I ever replace my Evo with? It's looking pretty much likely to be another Evo albeit a different one than a VI TME.

My Evo of choice would be an 8 FQ400 in grey, I'd pay up to 20k for one. This is the reason I ended up with a 9 FQ360. When I was looking two years ago I couldn't afford the 400 then! Let alone now.

When I consider what really matters to me in a car, very good dynamics, fast, feelsome steering, point to point pace, great noises, some visual drama, then I think my VI is is compelling value given $16k I've put into it to get it to its current point. I reckon I'd stretch to 20K for it, but when I look at what else is available at this money, I suddenly think that maybe it's good value at $25K or even $30k.

The only other car I truly lust after is a 911, and prices here have become completely demented for the special cars (hows $349,000AUD sound for a 993 Turbo?) Or perhaps you'd fancy a 997 GT2 for $500,000AUD. A bit much . how about a high mileage '79 SC for $110,000?
