what is an evo 5 gsr worth with an engine that doesnt run?

hi guys

it has been a hard year last year for me, watching my mum go through the later stages of cancer until sadly she passed away january 12th this year :( add to that a health condition i have which has become quite serious in the last couple of years and as hard as it is to accept im having to start thinking about more normal cars.

my evo 5 gsr engine stopped working in august/september last year, very strange and i dunno what went wrong, no suspect noises leading up to it, and didnt feel like any lack of power either, also was never ever hammered either, because i was doing so much caring, all i was doing was travelling to and from my mum, hospital trips, shops etc. never even got a chance to use it for what it was built for.

i went home one night, parked it in the drive, went out next day, nothing but ignition noise, ever so slight noises of wanting to spark but nothing. had a mate come round, a couple actually, nothing striking at first, but following a compression test turns out no compression on 1 and 3

initial intentions were to fix it by getting another engine and get it back on the road and with the dead engine out was gonna take it apart just for the learning experience as iv never done it, but things with my mum were getting very serious and the car went right to the back of the priority list.

as it happens, i have a newly built ( with receipt for £3600 ) engine with evo 9 internals, new sensors etc, turbo, manifold, everything included to drop in sourced through a mate of baz from boness, very kind guys the two of them, and has sat in my garage unfitted and wrapped with plastic covers and blankets, paid £1500 for it, bargain :)

truthfully, my own health now leaves me with a problem, i cant do the work as i could hurt myself, and iv already spent 5 weeks in hospital in the last 3 months, i dont want anymore for a while, i wanna try and look ahead and look after myself.

would be nice if someone would be interested in the car. i paid top money for the car 1 year ago of almost £7000 had an idea of what i would ask for it now being £4000/4500 ish. its declared sorn at the moment and the mot ran out about a month ago but since iv only done about 2-3k since its last mot, iv serviced it twice myself since then, and the mileage is 41k. also has dixcel carbon brakes all round with Z pads, superb stoppers. only done about 2k town mileage. no track, no drag, nothing. the brakes alone cost me about £800 ish in total. has a nice set of 17" alloys gunmetal colour, car is white, carbon insert on bonnet, defi and apexi guages, carbon exhaust gaurd unfitted, HEL brake lines new and unfitted and a few other bits unfitted. stainless exhaust and decat, sounds great.

engine is still in the car, with the airfilter, battery and some pipe work removed as i made a start but thats it. all in boxes.

anyone else been in similar situation with their car?

i wish i could keep it but as said, its been the hardest thing ever to accept im gonna have to start taking it easy and look after myself, cause i love cars. its been the one hobbie i have enjoyed over all the others, i dont really have too many others. so very frustrating.

car

shouldnt be hard to sell with a good running engine ready to drop in as long as the price is right
remember to change your oil cooler for a new one though, and put new belts/tensioner and clutch on the new engine[saves £££ in the long run]
yeah i would probs supply all fresh oils and filters as a kind gesture

nice evo u have tony, probs seen you kicking about
You always come first Martin, need to remember that cars can be replaced but you cant.

Ive PM'd with how i can hopefully help.:smthumbup
cheers mate, appreciated
Very sorry to here that fella i am baz bro.

Just a suggestion i am opening my own garage in the next 2 weeks and to help you out you can be my first kind I'd customer if you like for free!!!

What I am offering is the space ramps and tool with baz doing the work for you I don't think he will do for free but it won't be much as he said at time when you got the engine he would do work.

Better selling with new engine in IMO

Anyways pm if intrested

Where are you located?

I was going to say, it's a shame you can't persuade a couple of mates or fellow members to get stuck in and give you a hand if your so passionate about your car. It looks a very nice example. Would be a shame to let it go when you've got everything you need to sort it...

This may be your answer

That's the MLR spirit :smthumbup

you know something simon, that almost brought a tear to my eye with the offering of help. have got into a habbit of expecting bad news all the time now, thats the 1st positive offering. it would be nice to sell with the running engine, easier to sell to, and i can be in a normal car a bit sooner

id also happily advertise your business too, infact could actually work something out there as im in the parts trade too. id like to be able to help somehow in return
