quick question fellas!being a huge rally and evo fan,iv often wondered why, post evo 6,things went so pear shaped for mitsubishi in the wrc?personally i was gutted when the new car dident perform!especially after such sucess with the 3,4,5,6.was it something to do with tommi makinen retiring?as i recall hearing several times that he was very involved with the set up and devolopment of the cars, some even said that he was the only one who could set up and drive the 6 to its full potential, very tallented bloke no doubt!or was it that mitsubishi just couldent be arsed anymore? anyway whats your thoughts guys?

Instead of properly developing the Evo 7 into a WRC car Mitsubishi concentrated on continued development of the Evo 6 using Group A rally rules for aslong as possible. Not suprising when the Group A Evos has been so successful. Mitsubishi stuck with a Group A car when all the other manufacturers had developed WRC cars, some for several year before Mitsubishi did. Basically, WRC rules allowed for more modifications to the homologated car that Group A rules did.

Ultimately though, Mitsubishi were forced to introduce a WRC car by the FIA after being given special dispensation for the Evo 6 Group A car and Group A rules. It was not something they would of otherwise done at that time. When launched late in the 2001 WRC season the Evo 7 proved to be under developed and uncompetitive.

I've little doubt that Tommi Makinen would have won a 5th championship if Mitsubishi had stuck with the Evo 6 Group A car in 2001 which was still very competitive at the time. I think Tommi saw th writing on the wall and jumped ship to Subaru.

All this happened about the time Mitsubishi started having financial difficulties and justification for a proper WRC programme was not possible which led to them pulling out of the WRC altogether and even now they are only embarking on a partial WRC championship.

But remember they CURRENTLY still do fantastic in the Group N with the EVO IX's.
Some people think that just because they see them low down the list on WRC that they aren't a great rally car anymore.

wrc rallying as a whole has went to the dogs over the last two years. teams pulling out all round the place. its very hard to watch. there were only 2 drivers in the championship last year and one of them broke his arm near the end of the season.

as for mitsubushi. i dont know wat is going on there in the world scene but i watched the wrc team with mark higgins & andrew nesbitt in donegal last year on tarmac in them and they were amazing. i cant see wats wrong with them in the wrc. the cars performed great both leading at one time or another.

in group n rallying in ireland the evo's cant be beaten. marcus grondholm and the wrc ford team are in galway in 3 weeks time so that should be interesting. the ford team are practising for the wrc in ireland in november.

im hoping for a better wrc this year but if not at least ireland has some first class rallies and drivers to watch.

Evoni - end of the species?

Far, far away, in another galaxy, in a dark cave illuminated only by the light from the MLR, shelter the remnants of a once proud race – the evoni are almost extinct - the halcyon days of the scandinavious evonicus are just distant memories.

Trying to retrieve past glory and attract new breeding stock, a long journey was made across the stars for a visit to Mount Eifel, to honour the Gods at Nurburgringo Nordschleifi and see who could challenge for Lord of the Ring

Although the biggest gathering of evoni for many a light year, many could not keep track of the day and some lost their way, some were all at sea and had a sort of admiralanus where time is more important than sense and kissed the mouth of armconicus – by the will of the spirits of the 3 headed monster di amond, the evoni did not lose any from the gene pool although its quality was beginning to be worrying

To replenish the Force they recite mitsu bishi allus and tried a visit to one of the sacred places, a visit to Spafran Corchamps – maybe a last chance to show speed and agility in the tarmaco world

Many tried to show the evoni still had a part in the evil empire and that the force was strong in them but the ancient chant ohs hite was heard as a 360 was the fastest a sargi taffionus could do

And on the smooth skin of ard en, some found Rit Chw, a state of mind where there is an excess oily secretion and an explosive and messy experience – more of a con than a rod some thought – an experience devised by the blind dwarf ogod itsafook tengine

The aged Soothsayers are muttering that we could be seeing the end of the Evoni as a dominant force - the dark side is diminishing in its influence, indeed the Force appears to have moved

They have evolved as Darwin predicted – facing aged and infant warriors in the frightening world of sprintus straitus stupidus they now look like Sonico Hedhodgicus – a funny spiked top - and nowhere to go at the end

And the heart of the Force, fourgeesixthree is to be no more as the Mi-Vec is to be the future!

And as the galaxy expands through a new millennium the end is in sight – the evoni are dead – long live Citroenas from land of frogonis, masters of the rally games, rulers of the WRC

But a smile is still seen amongst the aged evoni for they have seen the force, enjoyed the dark side, ridden the curves of the universe and know the eternal truth. . . .
