Since I got my 1.8 GSR 2 years ago I've always run it on 10/40 Castrol magnatec changed every 3000-5000 miles. The tappets as usual have started to get a bit noisey lately and was just wondering if anyone knew or could recommend if it would be wise to change to a thicker or thinner oil to quieten them a bit. If so what grade? and will it possibly cause engine problems if I do. I'm one of those folk that like to stick to what I know works even if it means the tappets are a bit loud but we all know how annoying they can be :D

Cheers, Alastair

regret to say that changing oil viscosity won't be a long term solution to the tappet noise
- the oilways in your lash adjusters have become clogged & need cleaning - also usually only a temporary fix
.....they'll need replacing at some point

see article in the 'technical FAQ' section on how to clean/replace
...it's based on an e6 but similar for any evo / lancer gsr
