Anybody know where I can have this done? Heard it can be done to give the car a bit of extra protection from salt corrosion etc. I'm based in Swindon in Wiltshire.

Cheers

I presume you mean wax oiling and not just waxing??

It can be done yourself if you have the workshop to use, and the facilities. It's a bit messy though!!

don't waxoyl the under side of the car, it'll come off when you drive in wet weather. You need to properly strip the rust off underneath, paint it again then underseal it with a bitumin based sealer.

hi guys,

having recently purchased a freshly imported Evo VI TME, i had to quickly look into having the vehicle 'rust-proofed'.

the only person i could find who answered the phone in a friendly and professional manner - and (importantly for me) on a Saturday morning - was a guy called Michael who runs an operation called Rustmaster.

based on a farm in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, Rustmaster's helpfully informative website is http://www.rustmaster.co.uk and the contact numbers are 01707 274819 and 07788 583 313.

if it helps you Dommy, when i was looking for a rust-proofing service on Google i did find another business (and one that's geographically closer to you) in Newbury; however iirc this business seems to specialise in rust-proofing Land Rovers, and not having used them i obviously can't make a personal recommendation.

what i can say about Rustmaster, and particularly Michael, is that nothing was too much trouble for him - even dealing with a pedantic Evo owner at the last minute on a Saturday morning! - and that i was really pleased with the job he did for me.

i realise i've misplaced the receipt for the work he did and need to get back in touch with him for a copy, so i'm afraid i can't tell you precisely how much he charged; however i remember thinking the price was fair.

fyi Michael told me pretty much the exact same thing Steve220 has said when he advised "don't waxoyl the under side of the car, it'll come off when you drive in wet weather".

however, in the (very) short term i decided that i would only have the 120-4 Waxoyl Professional cavity wax injected into all the body and chassis cavities and then also liberally applied to everywhere on the underside of my TME.

this because the 120-4 cavity wax is a naturally, waxy-looking translucent colour and, having seen the absolutely beautiful aluminium alloy suspension components and so forth on the Evo VI, i didn't want the Waxoyl Professional hard wax (which looks like a kind of black tar) covering everything up (and possibly making things unnecessarily horribly messy) when the vehicle is being worked on.

apparently Waxoyl Professional hard wax is also available in the natural looking translucent finish and so i'm going to ask Michael to acquire a supply of this so's he can properly underseal my TME as soon as poss.

hope this all helps.

cheers,

PD

Don't use this bloke. I used to do all the maintenance in his workshop and it a complete **** hole. OK,it is a messy job but this bloke couldn't care less about your pride and joy. Surprisingly he does get quite a few nice cars such as Etypes etc but after speaking to the owners they say that they would never go back.
