Any help much appreciated, so here goes...

We have a pc at work that is switched on all the time. Over the Christmas break I need to access files on it from my lap top at home. Is a VPN what i need?

Are they free and easy to set up?

Both computers are running windows 10.

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a good option - BUT how secure are they/it

I'm connected to the shop 24/7 but it does involve a business router, at both ends, each with a hardware VPN. Cost is +£200 ea and a geek is needed to set them up

There are software VPN's but are they secure?

You can use OpenVpn for free and it can be secure. However it takes a bit to set it up securely and you need access to the work router so you can forward the VPN port on to the machine running the OpenVpn server. Not for the faint hearted.
