I know this is an old roasted chestnut of a topic, but it is getting near to Christmas and all that...

Anyway, the drivers seat in my TME 6.5 has some wear on the red fabric. The rear seat has the usual fading. Ive searched all over the interweb and I haven't found any definitive answers on how to solve this. In summary:

1. I can't find any replacement front seats 2nd hand.
2. I thought I could maybe locate a rear seat and use that to retrim the front, but there aren't any rear seats around ( at the moment)
3. A few old threads about using fabric dye on the fading, but nothing definitive from anyone thats actually done it.
4. I found a thread on here where someone suggested that rear seat covers were still available for the TME, but some parts specialist have advised me thats not an option and never was.
5. I've also had a quote for a complete rear seat, new, buts its £3k ( gulp) and might not be available at the end of the day.
6. Can you still buy a new front seat? Ive not asked anyone yet - shudder to think what the cost might be.
7. The holy grail - is the original fabric available, anywhere???

In a way, I wish I wasn't so precious about keeping my TME standard. I could just go out and get some nice new Recaros.

So, a very common problem, but not really any simple way to solve things!

If anyone has any other suggestions/ideas, let me know :smthumbup

I had alot of wear on my driver's side seat especially on the bolster from getting in and out, no one really gets into the passenger side so that seat is in mint condition. What i did was unbolted them and swaped them over, you need to unbolt a couple of rails for the seat belt set-up and thats pretty easy, took less then 1hr. Good way to even out the wear !! with the back seat well thats a little more difficult

No new seats are available, they used to be available once upon a time and the front seats were £1,800 each plus vat.....

The Mits garage say they have them, but after they speak to Japan its a no I am afraid :(

Changing the seats over, as explained above is pretty simple and a quick job.

The only option I have is waiting for someone to sell them because the car is rotten away or crashed :( hopefully not the later.

it really shows how much the seats can fade over the years. Im very tempted to try fabric dye, but if goes wrong Im stuffed.

Id happily buy a faded rear seat, experiment with trying to dye it - If i did mess up, id just use the red material to retrim the fronts.

I got lucky with finding a pair of brand new seats back in January . They came in the original boxes . Photo shows the difference .. I didn't realise how much my original fronts had faded .

Keep searching the likes of eBay and others .
As Rich says they do pop up from time to time .

I actually had my front seats reupholstered, the black alcantara. Personally I was not happy with the the result as there were creases in area that were not there before, but I does not look too bad. I can post some pics for you if you like.

Would love to see how your seats turned out. By the way, RichW's site says you are based in Aberdeen - Im in Aberdeenshire. Not sure if you are still local??

Let me know how you get on and vice versa as i have the same issue :)
Until I find a solution, I have bought the MLR seat covers! Ive just replaced the door cards and the floor centre console and armrest, so interior is just about perfect and makes the worn seats even more obvious now :wallbang:

Put new recaros in mate to stop the originals getting worse. I'm considering taking them all out myself and am sure a buyer in future should you sell would appreciate the original seats with the sale.

It's a long shot but can you post a pic of the material in a close up so I can see the fabric you want to change I may be able to find you some samples as I get my materials from around the world and might be able to find some for you when I get back on the 3rd. There's no promises but one of the lads has a nac of finding old stock
