Just checked the oil in the car, and yes you've guessed it - ITS DRY!! - NO OIL REGISTERING ON THE DIPSTICK!!

Along with the Marble sounding noice from the rocker cover...does this mean the engine, which has now done 7000 miles since new.

Has the engine had it??

I have put oil back in, and the noise is still there.

Would anyone like to have a guess as to what might have happened?

The engine is now nearly completely stripped down, photos are being taken at the same time, aparently they are doing a bit of a forensic examination on it, a rebuild of the engine is needed due to the fact that stray swarf may circulate around the engine.

Should know what needs replacing very shortly.
G
Any news on the cause of the problem ?
G
Not really, I think early indications suggest oil shortage
G
The thing with Evos it is important to keep an eye on the oil level,as low oil can surge on tight cornering, and leave the bearings dry. After my last track day my oil which I filled up past the high mark was below the low mark thats why I took oil with me on the day.

By the way Ant, Clive told me the engine had no leaks but there was a leak from the gearbox. That could have explained the oil patch on your drive.Whoever serviced your car last I think you said it was Motorway did'nt change the washer on the gearbox drain plug bolt.Maybe they did'nt top your oil up either I would have a chat with them.........
G
Barry, I am not getting involved in having any 'chats' with any garage, I just want my bloody car sorted out and brought back to me, I'm getting seriously ####ed off with the wait, while I know it may be necessary.

Motorwey in putney are a Ralliart Dealer, I know that they talked directly with Ralliart UK when the car had its first serviced, about a week after I bought it from Warrender, as this was the first one they had in, so I am sure they covered everything, as they will service a few in the area. I know them very well, they are very professional and helpful.

This Gearbox oil leak is rather strange, as it seemed to time in with the engine going wrong, the driveway is very new and no leaks were on the drive before, as I would have certainly noticed it.

So I just want RC to conclude their report, Warrender to sort it all out and have the car back now, please.
G
Ant Im only trying to help:)

But if Motorway serviced the car 2 weeks before the track day they were the last to touch the engine, and the oil.Track days use a lot of oil as I said my car after Oulton park was low and I topped it up before I went home.Rc didnt touch the engine ,Motorway did.Did you check your oil after the Track day!If you did how was it was it low.?
G
Barry, I know you probably are trying to help, but this is all going on for far too long now, almost looks like they are trying to find a reason NOT to have the work done under Warranty. Also though, I would have been nice to be told about other problems that have been found, I don't like being kept in the dark over all of this.

Arn't RC moving to Warrender's premises?

RC shouldn't be discussing your car with anyone other than you, Warrender and amp; Ralliart.

Do Evos Engine oil circulate around the gearbox? (as some Honda's do)

Jeremy
G
ins, evo gearbox and engine oils totally separate.

ants, nil carborandum illegitemi. or summat.
G
Oilgoon..........took a while, but now understand.

InsBro, yes I agree....and well spotted, Looks like they are (hmmm, I have had a contact problem, as well today!!)

Latest news in within a hour I hope!
G
Just heard back from RC Developments

They have now confirmed that the big end bearings have gone/going, so these will need to be replaced, at the same time the engine will have to have a full rebuild, obviously due to the fact that there could be swarf etc lurking around it.

Cause of the problem?..seems to be oil shortage and surging, how, when and where is still unknown, there are no apparent leaks, and the engine is as dry as a bone, last ouil fillage was just before christmas, where it only took about half a litre...so the mystery still remains.
G
You say that you put in about half a litre of oil just before Christmas.
How long had it taken to use that half litre you were replacing?
G
Bizz, October - so 2 months
G
AntsEvo,

is it going to be covered under the warranty ? Any news on that ?
G
Alex, Hmmmm, good question - aparently I am currently in a GREY area, currently negotiating? - Will know tommorow

One thing to bear in mind warranty or no warranty is that the garages who have worked on the car have whats called defective workmanship cover this covers them for making any kind of mistake that can lead to a mechanical failure/problem with a customers car.

Ring me if you want more details.

Jeremy, cheers for that, still negotiating, should know final details today, basically engine needs a redbuild (for safety sakes), there is some work I require to be done on it anyway (380 conversion), so we are looking to balance everything out, obviously I will take you up on your phone call if required....may need to phone you soon in anycase, car insurance due soon!
G
Finally we have a result!

Warrenders and RC Developments, have honoured 99% of the engine rebuilding works including parts, VAT and labour, considering this was classed as a grey area I am very happy with the results, I have decided to have aditional works done to the car, and so the 380 conversion goes ahead, I am aware that any more power than this will require major bottom end, turbo and clutch work, so have decided to settle on this, for the moment, I will review it later in the year.

I would just like to thank everyone's support, YET AGAIN! on my problems, and thanks for all the advice given on the board and through personal emails.

Finally its nice to actually find a Car Sales Garage and a Tuning Company to which I feel I can trust, and to which they spend time talking to you, they still need more that one phoneline though!!

I am a thourougly happy bunny!

I wonder if Ralliart would have paid out?
G
A thoroughly good result well done
