Sorry to bring up the subject again about the E6 grommet but I was just wondering if any of the tuners remove this as part of their upgrades.

Do RC, do PE or any others for that matter.?

Do Ralliart remove it in any of their conversions?

Does anyone know?

Bizz,
IIRC, RC remove it when they fit the bolt-on boost controller (as will any other company that fit a bolt-on boost controller as the boost controller does the same job as the grommet but turns it into an adjustable grommet) and so it depends on the method of tuning used as to whether or not the grommet is removed. If you go along the route of an aftermarket ECU with built in boost control then I would have thought you could leave the grommet in if you wanted to which is what I believe Ralliart do but I'm not too sure.

quick question, if they take the grommet/plumbing out when they put in the electronic boost controller, how does the engine know what standard/factory boost is when you turn the controller off to return to standard settings??

Lee,
If you don't remove the grommet then you can only increase the boost using a boost controller, it will not be possible to reduce the boost below the original level. Therefore if you want full boost control and the ability to increase or decrease it then you will have to remove the grommet.

Don't think that you can turn a boost controller off. The thing is physically connected to the wastegate, and replaces the solenoid valve used as standard control. I certainly can't turn off my APEXi fuel controler, and wouldn't want too, as it is wired in series to the air flow meter. Likewise I would think that the APEXi boost controller is similar (comes on with ignition).

You can program 2 different boost control settings in the AVC-R (setting A and B), the 3rd setting is OFF, no boost control. The AVC-R is then still on and serves as a boost gauge, but does not control the boost.
