A few months ago by evo started acting up.. hunting all the time..
when one day it would start but really lump.. engine light would come on then the engine would die.
not long after that it would not start at all..

Checked everything on the engine and found out that it was not firing on 2 of the coil packs.


I replaced the coil packs no difference.
I then replaced the ignition aplifier nxt to the coil packs.. still nothing..

I sent my ECU off for repair. Got it back and they said they had fixed a few things.. the boiled capacitor and a burn out line on the board..

put it back in the car but still the same thing


im now stumped... i guess the only other thing it could be is a bad earth *sob*

but if any of u gyus have any other ideas the plz say.. otherwise the car is gonna get stipped apart looking for a bad wire lol...

Have a look at the FAQ about the idle speed control valve.

Another possibility is a knackered MAF sensor but if the car runs fine otherwise then I doubt that this would be the cause.

do u think the idle speed control valve if bust would stop the 2 coil packs from firing ?

the car does not start at all now becuase of the 2 coils not firing

I've misunderstood you sorry. I thought you meant that you'd changed the coil packs / ECU etc.a nd that cured the problem of the non-firing but it was still idling lumpy, not that it still wasn't firing on 2 packs.

In that case, ignore my post because it won't be the MAF or the ISCV.

Have you tried replacing the ECU altogether with a different one? If the old one has had various bits fried then it may not be working wonderfully well at all. Do you know anyone local to you who has an Evo that you can swap ECu's with?

you could always buy the Gizzmo-chipped ECU that Mick White is selling.....

btw
have you checked fuel - pump, filter, pressure regulator
just to make sure that there's fuel getting through ?

also, have you changed plugs & checked leads etc ?

if deffo not fuel .. fuel is getting to the injectors fine...

also cant be the leads as i have checked for spark just on the coil packs and there is none ..


if i deffo knew it was the ECU then i might consider the gizzmo ECU thats for sale.. but i cant be 100% sure

ok i thought of one way to find out if it is the ECU...


if anyone on here with an evo 1 is willing to do it that is ..
if i where send someone with an evo 1 my ECU they could test it in their car that way i would know if it was the ECU or not ..

anynoe on here willnig to do that

explain the situation and see if you can get an ECU on a sale or return basis ?
or put up a wanted ad...with same request

...the e1-3 have the same ECU

been talknig with dave.. i dont think he has any instock at the mo. .but he has done that knida deal with me as i got the coil packs and ignition amp from him.. he let me send them back after they did not work.. he has to be one of the best companies around dont know anyone else who would be willing to do that

dont suppose anyone would have a wiring diagram for the evo 1 ???
i got a cd with a load of adobe files for the galant but its different.. so aint no help..

have you not tryed a fault code reader on it if the E1 has one sure it has ???? a mits dealer would tell you in afew mins what was wrong ? ? tell me to shut up if lm wrong lol

i dont think there is a diagnostics port.. plus i could not get it to a mitsi dealer lol..

i guess there would have to be a way to get the error codes from the ECU but i cant find any info on it
