Is this is a big problem or does it just meant the air bag won't be working?

(Yes some might say an air bag not working is a big problem, but it won't stop be driving it!)

It is an MOT failure: Taken from AA website WRT MOT failures:

A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction warning light indicating a malfunction is a reason for failure.

I would get it checked as you wouldnt want it deploying while driving

Very likely clock spring is damaged or connectors in steering column not seated properly. Will throw srs light but no code.
Quite often issue with Mitsubishi. Had once with Galant VR4 and in my Evo.

I would definitely get it checked out as it is an MOT failure for the light to be on permanently and the airbag system is disabled whilst lit.

Strangely though, unlike the ABS light it's not a failure if the light doesn't come on at all.
