Yep spyware is a big pain aint it.

Adaware is IMO the best anti spyware and AVG is pretty good too. Having said that unless you have the latest antivirus/spyware definitions installed, they are next to pointless. Also windows updates are also critical for this sort of thing.

I would try, updating everything (windows updates, AVG, adaware) rebooting into Safe Mode (hit F8 as it boot up and choose Safemode). Then run a full adaware scan and a full AVG scan (all files). Hope fully this will get all the nasties.

if you still get the about:blank page go to Tools/Internet options menu in IE and set what you want you homepage to be.

Hope you get this sorted mate.

Boot into Safe Mode using F8 during startup and then run the antivirus scan and adaware assuming u have upto date definitions they should be removed unless u have some real nasty ones

Mate you've got that se.dll trojan, its running circles around av and anti spyware at the moment. Hijacker threads are a waste of time because they can't fix it either.

I'm having another go at the neighbours laptop tonight, i'll keep you posted (its overwritten a system service basically by the looks of it).

i've been trying to get shut of it for the past month, success at last, basically its a file set up in your start up menu, despite running hijack this etc reading various web pages about how to delete it, it still got back in, I did remove it myself yesterday but paid out for norton 2005 and ghost £59.99 from comet (office world wanted £88.98

first get hijack this click here

do the scan it comes up with a lot of files, no matter how many times you try to remove the Temp Dll.32 file it comes back, heres what you need to do, do the scan fix then go over to config button page like this

That's usually because the dll is in the system restore cache, which you need to turn off.

Be careful with Hijackthis, it can do a lot of harm if you delete the wrong stuff.
Use http://hjt.iamnotageek.com/ which has a log analyzer on it.

I didn't mean to remove anything even if u scan as it always comes back.

The only way is to go into config setting on hijack this and change

1. Default page (as about blank automatically starts up to the one in your current settings)
So I changed mine to WWW.Blueyonder.co.uk

2. the second Default page i changed to http:\\google.co.uk.

thus stopping it connecting to your original default settings.

Then go to start menu, accessories, system tools, system information, tools, down to sytem config utility, and then go into start up it lists start up programs,

the one i unticked was name sp .... then rundll32/temp.SEDLL

click apply, so it cant reboot.

then go back into start, settings, user control panel, internet options and change your connection start up to the one you put in the default in hijack config settings, click apply and then ok,

woo hoo it wokred for me and i have been at it over a month, i read loadsa forums by click on google and typing how do i remove about blank. cnet helped too.

good luck any probs pm me i will try to help you.

cheers

I had loads of cack like this with IE - it was clear and then the next day infected again.....run the cleanup using Adaware and SpyBot S&D, and all clean again.

Start up and it's back - I think it was something in the registry in the end.

Got totally hacked off with it - and downloaded Mozilla Firefox 6 months ago and have NEVER had another hijack....

Ok it's slightly different, but you get used to it :D

Also I read somewhere that some of the microsoft executives use Firefox as well........
