what colour should they b and what is the gap in millimeters / pulled 1 out 2day n the gap seemed big and the plug was a orangey-brown colour!!

Colour depends on the conditions the engine was running immediately (ie idling in traffic , motorway running etc) b4 the plugs were removed , can b anything from brown 2 light grey/off white.

Gap is 0.7-0.8 mm on new plugs , service limit is 0.95 mm , BUT u can't regap them , if they exceed the service limit replace them.

On my car under the bonnet, on on a sticker it says you don't have to replace the plugs for 54'000 miles. Is this b0ll0cks?

Nope, its true, unless as Evoboy says they are beyond their service limits.
