About three weeks ago my CN9A (EVO IV) started to give me issues with getting the car into gear. I know is not the clutch because the car is pulling like hell without any slippage. The problem started with a bit of 5th gear grinding and now sometimes I cant get other gears in unless I force them in with the clutch pressed of course.

I was thinking that maybe its time for a new shifter or that the linkage or cable mechanism from the shifter to the tranny needs adjusting or replacement.

The ability to shift like a race car is one of the most wonderful things about this car and I want to fix this issue before it becomes a problem.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks :mitsi:

Thats another thing I did notice the issue when the temperature started changing here in Germany. I hope is just the bushings and not the sinchros.

Do you recommend the aluminum ones or should I buy rubber again?

So my bushings finally came in and now the problem is also with second gear. I notice that the shifter has some play when its in a gear but I dont know if that is normal play. It almost feel when I try to shift as if the lever is getting stuck somewhere and this is why I am unable to shift quickly. Any suggestions? Does anyone know where I can pick up another shifter for a sensible price?

You mean take them off the shifter and try to move them manually? I had an eclipse turbo before which the bracket where the cables connect to in the transmission was a little loose and was causing a similar issue. I just dont see this car having that issue since the bracket in this car uses 3 screws as opposed to two like the eclipse had. I think its realeasing properly. When I shift slow like a normal car I have almost no issue its only when I do the quick shifting that is causing the problems.

the e4 had a very flimsy bracket (like the dsms),remove it and look at it,maybe something is bent .

edit..the clutch could still be worn, only releasing on granny shifts(because on a granny shift, you press the pedal allll thee waaay innn) on a quick shift..u dont.

Check the clutch pedal play?adjust it maybe and see if it helps? (adjust it on the rod that goes to the master cylinder..just like on the eclipse)

What tranny oil do you recommend? I am going to change it too while I am at it. I am looking at clutches but they are all too costly for now. Do you have any info on the adjustment of the pedal?

So I adjusted the clutch pedal earlier today and I feel a difference in reaching my gears now. I can actually shift better when fast. I turned the bracket two turns clockwise but I think I am going to do one more turn to try and make it shift more smooth. With that being said I need to ask what is everyone using for tranny oil and any suggestions as to what clutch to buy for my cn9a? I am trying to prepare early since I know it is inevitable that I will need a new one down the road sometime. I will keep updating this as I try new things.....

So I got this issue sorted out and it was the shifter cable that was old and was stretching from so much use. As soon as I got that replaced. Presto the problem was gone. I got a friend of mine who has a mitsi dealer and works and races rally cars to do it and he was very good with the price.
