lol i usually always speak to truth, but we agree to disagree , 2 different minds :D

its true though, evos are expensive to run, fuel, insurance, and if a diff goes or anything else, its not like any other cars, even their second hand parts are expensive

alot of my friends here over the yrs, its sad they were well off but the evo totally destroyed them coz they kept on spending and spending, at the end they either lost their car or home

sad really.
i sometimes wonder the same, i could have invested money on business and made loadsa money, but we decide to waste it on the car and with the car u will never ever be happy, theirs never an end to mods, something better comes out and changing the spec and turbos, its actually a sickness

a bit like smeagol aka gollum from lord of the rings

he hates the ring but the same time he loves it and cant survive without it, same with the evo , some days u hate it and then u luv it, it grapples with your life

alot cheaper mate to run in the long run, 350z's u can grab them imported from the uk for 15k a yr old or even new ones depending on the models

and s2000's seen them from 12k and above

and ctr hondas go cheap and alot of mods he can do if he wants

still be fun

evos in the other hand, i had mines for yrs and enuff to know its a headache too and is expensive to run, i had a lexus gs300 from new that was pish easy in comparison to run along with my 2 motorbikes and mr2 and honda

all those compared to the evo was cheap

a lambo would have been cheaper for me the amount of times i changed my spec lambo was cheap in comparison and a ferrari

trust me when stuff dont work out between the wife and i, over the evos and u have fights and then when u spend half your mortgage without telling your wife on the evo

thats something nasty, well i done the above and worse

but still theirs one man who puts me in the shade

his name is THEE BLADE aka tony

but he can afford it he is mega rich i aint :D

if your worried about running costs of an evo dont buy one,if you do get one make sure you have a couple of grand aside for service, maintaining, tax, insurance, and BIG petrol bill :)

at the end of the day you only live once.

Depends really on your age, mileage, how you drive etc, but going on my own experience you will be looking on average at

Insurance around £1000 per year
Service every 6 months or 4500 miles £250
Fuel around 200 miles per tank £30 - £35
Tyres 1 set per year £100ish per corner

As i say it depends on how you drive, I dont drive hard.
I think if you buy the VIII 260 you can still get 3 years free servicing, this will take out alot of the sting.

All I can say is that if you do take the plunge you wont regret it :D

Hope this helps

From personal experience if u keep the car and do average mileage a year it'll cost about 80 pence a mile including everything. This was from a evo 6 had for 3 years, 34k miles bought for 28k sold for 18k, unmodified.
Without depreciation this comes to 50 pence a mile.

seen a few threads on this and most seem to get around theses figures, depreciation is worse these days it seems, could loose 10k in 2 years on a new 8 fq.

I've been running a IV for 6 months and all my major expenses were at the beginning (new brakes, wheels etc.).

I get tyres for £80 a corner (Falkens) and found a brilliant guy (Rich at RG Motorsport) to service it for less than half what Mitsi charge.

My major expense is fuel but get 40p a mile from my company for business mileage which takes the sting out of it.

Reading other people's posts it seems that if you go the modding route you ae going to spend BIG money but surely that's true of any car.....?

I've been running my VI now for a year, most of the cost was fuel, I'd say about 200-300 quid a month. :coolsm:

The only problem I had was front diff bolts, but I did them myself so the cost was the tools. :p Normaly would cost about 500 notes at Mitsi.

I have come very close to grumbling about the fuel costs but I didn't, the day I do that will be the day I think about selling it.

Also if you mod your evo like the suspension you will have to put up with replacing drop links and bushes. :( Not cheap and not easy to come by, I'm still sourcing front drop links!

However, I do drive it fairly sensibly, no launching, no riding the clutch, and it's still on it's original clutch. Although the drive shaft has a bit of play in it, beginning to thud on hard gear changing :blah:

AWESOME car though!!!!!!

Chap, don't get scared off by all this lot moaning about how expensive they are.....

Sure they are not the cheapest, but they are not that expensive.

If you thrash the car, then it will cost you money.....but that's the same with any car.

As some have said:-

Fuel you'll never go below 15-20mpg average on the road, so max 20p per mile on fuel.

If you thrash it 5000 miles on a set of tyres, 10p per mile.

Insurance 1500 per year, average 20000 miles per year....7.5p per mile.

Servicing, about 5p per mile....

Brakes, between 5p and 8p per mile if you're hard on them.

Clutch, 5p per mile, again if you're hard.

So that's 52.5p per mile (not including depreciation)..... I don't think that's bad for a car that will blow the doors of most stuff!

So on 20k mile per year, 10500 per year, or £875 per month.

Include depreciation and you can probably add 20p per mile.... another £4k per year.

Get one, enjoy it and don't worry about the cash.

Wow I wish I had your wisdom around when trying to persuade my missus the car was a good "investment"....! :D
