Round 4 OULTON PARK:

Round 4 saw drivers change once again and Ben Alberys was back in the hot seat, last competing at Cadwell Park.

After the rear differential failure the car suffered at Brands Hatch and the numerous rounds and track days the old girl had done the team decided to transport the car back to Automotive Performance Tuning for a health check.
Gary serviced the car gave it a quick check over and also tweaked the suspension settings ready for Oulton.

The Team were 2 members short this round James Abbott and Darren Wissart both missing the event due to work commitments which meant the other members would have their work cut out.

Friday came and the Team headed up the M1 to Oulton arriving in plenty of time and setting up ready for Saturday. Saturday saw a torrential amount of rain and many teams switching to the wet options, Ben and the team decidied to test the Trofeo R's on the wet track much to the shock of a few of the teams.

Ben got quicker and quicker through the session and eventually finished P1 in class with a 2:02.831, although it was only the warm up, it done the world of good for Ben's confidence and also the teams decisions to run the tyres and suspension setup on the car.

The car came in and the logs were checked, Paul Clarke, Matt N Kim Newing and Kris spent the next hour cleaning it and prepping ready for the practice session. Ben went out on low boost again, confident with the car, after the session Ben was 2nd in 4wd Class and 3rd overall in Club class with a 1:52.330.

The afternoon sessions saw a dry track and the times began to plummet. The team set the car to the mid boost setting and Ben went out and began to build speed. The round ended with Ben 2nd in Class and 2nd overall. The top 3 cars all being seperated by less than 1.5 secs and all 4wd cars. Kavasai and Calleja also putting in blistering times.

The car again was checked over by the team, logs checked and prepped for what was to be an awesome final. The team set the boost to it's highest setting in an attempt to really bring down the lap times hoping the car would eat up the straights..... This was not to be, Ben done the best he could as a transmission gremlin began to plague the car from the off. A 1:34.085 was good enough for 3rd and a fantsatic drive by all the guys in Club 4wd.

Dalibor Kvasai and Calleja showed how very talented they are under pressure, Richard Lowe pushed hard all day until a fault with the car stopped play. Leigh Jordan and Paul Wright also got faster and faster throughout the day. The Club 4wd class is full of talented guys and teams, so for Ben to then pilot a poorly car into 3rd place is impressive.

The Team were also awarded Best presented Team of the day which we are all over the moon about. It was a fantastic day for Team JDS our first ever competitive race series, none of the Team are full time mechanics or ever have been and Matt has only ever been on track since December with Ben only getting competitive this year and only his 2nd ever time driving this car in anger.

May I also take this opportunity to say again how friendly all the guys are in general and espeically in our class it's always a pleasure to share garages with Paul Wright and the TDS team and Calleja and the Chevron guys.

Another thanks goes to Gary Hayward @ APT tuning for his continued commitment and development with the car, always on hand to look at data and give advice. The way in which the engine delivers it's power and the way the ECU controls this makes the car a pleasure to drive.

A big sorry to Steve Jackman for nearly ploughing over him as Ben was fighting the car as it was out of shape on track. Thanks for getting some great pics.

Roll on Croft and Matt back in the hot seat.
