Just wondering if anyone has an answer to my problem..

I have an 8 260 with the 5 speed gearbox and when I change from 1st to 2nd, as soon as the clutch goes down the car kind of shunts forward. It does it 2nd to 3rd as well but no where near as noticeable. It makes the car an absolute pig to drive to the point where I’d rather jump in the missus Astra. The gear stick usually pings from first to in between and then in to 2nd when it happens.

The cars currently running around 360/360 and it’s still on the standard clutch from factory and done 56k miles (done well). I’ve also had the rear diff bushes replaced with super pro ones a few months ago. Could this be a clutch issue? Maybe worth a mention I’ve had the car serviced literally every 6 months and the last service was an 18k service.

so when you press the clutch pedal to the floor, the car is pulling forwards?

If so, 2 thoughts, the obvious worn clutch, but also a worn slave cylinder, meaning the slave isnt completely pushing the clutch lever

Yes. The best way I can describe it is that it kind of feels like loads of stuff in your boot sliding forward when you slam on your brakes but under the car.

Thanks for the input btw, but if the slave cylinder is worn wouldn't that cause it to happen on every gear?

I repaired a Vauxhall Astra that was doing same thing and it was a broken pressure plate in the clutch

Clutch wasn't fully releasing

Had something similar with an exedy twin SD, was an issue changing gear at high revs, inertia was pushing the broken part into the clutch workings stopping the clutch from disengaging

Cheers pal. It seems to look like it's more than likely the clutch then. Hopefully it is as I don't fancy a hefty gearbox bill.
