I've got yet another puncture in one of my tyres, 2nd in two months. Unfortunately, this one is in the sidewall, so probably cant be repaired.

I dont want to fork out on a complete set of 4 tyres. Will I be ok if I replace just the axle-pair? Other axle-pair has about 3-4 mil left.

Not sure how much of a problem it is in real life, but Mitsi strongly advise against this on cars with ACD (i.e. 7-9s).

They say it's preferable to mount the worn tyres diagonally opposite to prevent excessive strain on the ACD.

However, this will induce it's own significant handling problems, so isn't a good idea either.

You could get the two new tyres "skimmed" a bit to 5mm or so to help.

Cheers :)

They reckon they can send the tyre away for a professional repair, which is good news. Means I've got a new pair on the rear axle temporarily, which I'll swop back once the repaired tyre is returned. Means having uneven tyre depths front and rear for about a week, which I hope will be ok.

i had the same happen, a puncture, unknowingly i got a brand new trye and stuck it on the front, caused a list of problems, tracking, pulling in one driection and uneven worn on the opposite tyre. SO dont do that on the front.

I have now put it on the back and matched it up, fairly close to another tyre with similar tread depth, about 1-1.5mm diff, and its fine, cant notice any handling diff, drives true, no ACD problems. i also have a small difference in the front depth and the rear depth.

Would image a expert driver tracking the car to probably noitce a differance, but for everyday driving its appears fine....(unless you drive like a nutter everyday  )
