My EVO V is currently fitted with a standard size number plate at the rear and it looks **** as it doesnt sit in the hangers. I contacted my local Mitsi garage to try and get a large rectangular one as fitted to Ralliart VI's but they said they would have to order it from Ralliart and it would cost £50 http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/embarassed1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle > My local motor accessory shop can do me one for a fraction of the price but I dont know the correct size. Could someone please give me the dimensions for the large rear number plate as fitted to many VI's out there.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Spanpody,

Try a company called DJW Signs in Dudley. They make up number plates for a well know Evo specialist in the same area (no prizes for guessing who!)

I picked up a set of front and rear plates for only £26 inc Vat and delivery. The plates were really well made and look the biz. They are really helpful there too and will fax you a picture of how the plate will look with different spacing etc. They even included the logo of Mitsubishi's motorsport arm on the plates for me!

The rear plate on an E6 is 21 x6
Read the 'number plate' thread currently just below this one. I got a custom sized set from Ian Palmer who makes the plates up for a hobby (RB5 owner but I let him off). I got them in less than a week and that included waiting for the large rear backing to come in! It worked out less than £26 for the 2 I seem to remember.
Have a look at 'Members Cars', 'E4-6', 'Colin Bookers E6' for a look at his handy work. I was very happy with the result.
Give Ian an email if you are interested [email protected]

21|PLS|6 is HUGE i have sent an e-mail to peely asking if he can do 11|PLS|7 as this will fit in the clips and reach the top of the reces in the boot and look better than the uk reqtangle shape more inkeeping with it jappanse roots ?

Personally I think the 21 x6 plate fills the rear boot lid better and looks more pleasing than a smaller, squarer plate.
You need to balance the plate shape with the space the plate sits in.
In short as the boot lid is rectanglular so the plate should be aswell. A squarer plate will look out of place.
If you have a 11 x7 front plate (they usually are fitted direct from dealers) try taking it off and siting it on the back and have a look.

Incidentally I ordered my front plate slightly longer than the minimum standards allow. Why?, because it gives a slightly larger border on the left/right of the number to make it look better balanced. Only 10mm each side but it makes a difference.
It would look better with smaller lettering (like the S6 GSR press car) but I wanted to keep within the law given the new crackdown on dodgey lettering/spacing.

At the end of the day it is up to you but I think an 11 x7 on the rear will look out of place.

Thanks MakMan/HHsix for the info http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/happy1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

I agree with you HHsix, I think the small square plate at the back looks out of place. Ive seen loads of E6's around with the larger plate and IMHO I think it looks better.

As long as you don't got for the Rover 75 full-up look! http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/happy1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

What were they thinking when they thought that one up?

and does the larger plate sit in the clips on the boot or not .as i think the clips look daft just sitting there doing nothing.

For once I have to disagree - I think the FULL UP Rover 75 plate looks great - as you know I've got one! As for EVO VI plates the smaller the better - however it's all a matter of cost and I can't be bothered to change the larger Ralliart plates to a smaller variety.http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/biggrin1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

However capital plates did change the front one recently!

Matter of taste, but I'm with R and amp;HP on this one - I've got a lovely little square job at the back to match the one at the front and I like it, so there.

A 21 x 5.5 is the size that fits the rear of an E6 just right.
If you have a short reg number then the plate can be made shorter if you require.

I have a 13.5 x 6.75 front which covers the backing plate perfectly.

Anything is possible.

Its all a matter of taste but I could go on to quote the 'rule of thirds' and about aspect ratios of peoples field of view but that is getting too involved as its only a number plate!
If you are still undecided just have a look at what other people have done and make your own mind up.

If your going to the Rallyday then check out my new 3/4 size plates.
Like SteveC n HH6 said, all a matter of taste, with me being an ex bike man I feel it only natural to fit the smallest plate possibly. helps evade the unwanted attention of orifices, like in Manchester the other weekend, mind you thats another story..........

All straight and ready for another go, May 5th...........

Thanks all for your comments. I never thought a number plate posting would have attracted so many replies. For info I have now ordered a standard front plate and a large 21x6 rear plate for my E5 from DJW Signs. They are also including the Mitsi Motorsport logo http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/happy1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

I recommend DJW signs, great service [img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/wink1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

Thanks MakMan, youve been a great help
