Radar Detectors

Guys, with the choice to go for an evo soon and use it for company car mileage, i think an investment in a radar detector would be worth while to help save my license (although i am a careful driver but can't see it being the case all the time in a car like this...plus having driven a diesel for a year!).

Whats the best on the market?

I've tried out the road angel but to be honest, found that its only useful for static camera's you've uploaded into its memory. Don't detectors exist that can pick up on police cars etc? I know they exist in america in the same way that they are able to listen in on police radio etc!

Any advise would be appreciated

i run 2 detectors in my car , a road angel, and a valentine 1 with concealed display.( advisable because the valentine is shaped for left hand drive cars), had a bel990 prior to that, and it was excellent as well, i think you get what you pay for

the road angel comes with a laser extra for detecting the mobile units, personally i didnt like the unpredictability of it, i use the angel for its gps capabilities and the valentine for mobiles and police , remember although a camera van is sited on the verge, it doesnt log every cars speed , hence sometimes there is no warning ( dont think the units not working), the same with fixed cameras , the gps picks them all up but they are not necessary on, you get a warning before some of the fixed that are transmitting with the valentine , on others no sound as you approach or go through the lines. it means they are not switched on,

For info and spec , i think its an excellent detector, ps if you get one make sure its either a 1.7 with the last 3 numbers of he serial number above 650 ( i think . better double check on the website) or a 1.8 version , ( these have the KU band that is being used here )
