Radar Detectors

Does anyone know if these are now banned. I understood that they would be banned by the same legislation which made mobile phone use endorsable at the end of this month. I have looked at the Government press release, but there is no mention of radar detectors.

As far as I'm aware nothing has changed and they are still legal. :)
Still very much legal, but a bit old hat nowadays. Laser detectors are more use.
Not according to a lot of the reviews that seem to be knocking around on the internet.
I have a Road Angel Laser Alert and it's about as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

I've driven by Camera Vans and a copper with a speed gun and it has never alerted me to it. I still use it just in case

99% of stuff you read on the net is ****.

*awaits obvious joke*
Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I don't mean G.P.S. location detectors, such as Road Angel but old style "Radar" detectors like Valentine One

The Road Angel Laser Alert isn't a GPS unit mate. It was their first product before the GPS units hit the market. It supposedly picks up Laser from Camera Vans and Speen Guns and warns you of their presence.

They're legal. The legislation that can make them illegal can do so only if the detector is reading data broadcast by radar. As it is merely detecting the presence it is ok.

I doubt the g'ment are going to do anything to ban these devices now that laser is the way forward.
they are legal mate, some ww2 telegraphy act/law making it legal to receive these signals. you only break the law when you stand on the brake after receiving the signals and thus using the info to evade capture, total nonsense i know.
the reason i know is because i was the second person ever in britain to get taken to court and unsuccessfully prosecuted for using one about 10 years ago.
By the time the laser detects you have been zapped - too late. My older Snooper S5-r picks up Gatsos which is some use, but lots of modern cameras arent detectable by these systems. GPS is only way to go.
These things are only fully affective when theres traffic round as the laser is bounced about off over vehicles. Where as with no traffic youve already got the ticket.
Can someone with a legal background please translate Clause 18(b), it looks on the surface that the cops will nick anyone with a speed detection device from the 27th February. The cops in Dumfries & Galloway tell me thats what will be happening. :(
