Problem (??) after changing from original to Ralliart ECU on EVO 6 TME

Hi!

I have changed to Ralliart ECU on my EVO 6 TME, when accelrating (quite hard) the voltage goes down a bit, I see that the light on my headlights drops a little in the dark. (Down to 80-90% of the normal light but not down to a constant level, it goes up and down..)

The light comes fully back when I stop accelrating.

Regards

If it's an LHD TME, there might be an issue with the wiring, preventing the alternator from charging the battery (like on an E5). There should be some information in a thread somewhere on here.

Cheers,

Simon
I thought the wiring issue was only applicable to e4 and the e5, however if for some reason you TME has the same loom then just simply cut the wire which goes into terminal 33 (Generator G Terminal 41 Generator FR terminal)

terminal 33 is located on the second plug from 4 on the ecu form the left to right, the block has 16 pins/connections, 8 on the top were the plug clips to the ecu and 8 on the bottom, simply cut the 3rd wire along the top row (top row being were the plug clips hook on to the ecu) job done :D
hmm..

And you KNOW this, danevo?

:)
i would say so, as i have done this modification to my own car as i run a e6 ra ecu on my 4 ;)
There is no issues with fitting the Ralliart ECU into an E5 GSR, straight swap and no wire cuts, its a different matter with the E4.
I was told the loom on the 4 and 5 are the same , I was told I could fit a v ecu straight in without any issues, however they could have been wrong,I was also told on the 6 ecu I would have to modify the wiring loom to allow fitment  which sounded scary, but in reality it meant to cut one wire which goes into terminal 33 to prevent the battery from draining :) , tbh when I first fitted the ecu I drove round without making any changes it seemed ok but I just cut the wire anyway, as I didn’t want to end up with a flat battery.
hmm..

I have heard that the cooling fan goes more often with the rallirart ecu. Can it be that the fan starts each time i accelrate hard to cool maximum?

I have a small (the original I guess) battery at only 42 Ah.
no m8 it wouldn’t be that, the fan only comes on when the car reaches a certain temperature not when you accelerate hard, the extra load will most probably be your fuel pump as it has to flow allot more litres per hour when your floor it, however no matter what size your battery, your alternator should be able to produce enough power to run everything and still charge ,I wouldn’t expect the lights to go dim, so you could have a problem with your alternator if why don’t you get a volt meter and see if the battery is charging properly for starters.

I don't think that it is something that uses much electricity because it seems that the light dim's until i stop accelrate. If it had been the fan f.ex the light would dim only in the start moment.

This problem came at the same time that i mounted the Ralliart ECU, it has NOT been like this before so I don't think it can be the dynamo.. I have not measured the voltage but the light is very good in the dark so I don't think it is any bad.

The light was also unstabile after a hard ABS brake down on the ice today.

Do you still think I shall cut that wire?

Hans Erik.
Just a quick suggestion.

You did reconnect the ground connections (held in with one of the ECU bolts) when you bolted the ECU back inplace ?

Yes, I did that.

:)
if you cut the wire carefully, you can always rejoin it if it don't fix the problem.
