I was watching on the news last night about this and how he is supposed to be very conservative in his views.

They had some soft lefty liberal woman on newsnight and she was giving some priest loads of grief about how the catholic church should be more modern and accept gays and contraception etc.

Fair play to him though he just stuck to his guns and said how the Catholic faith is the catholic faith. You either chose to follow it or you dont.

Now Im 100% Agnostic. But I can respect others beliefs and respect the Catholics for wanting to keep their religion how it has been for all these years and not wanting to make changes to accomodate todays overly PC culture.

cam see a younger fella can do alot and meet alot of people, older fellas just get ill

thats why i hoped some one like the good rowan williams may become a pope, i wish he was a catholic more i wish he was a muslim rowan williams is my hero :D luv the guy

daveR hows u bud, i agree but catholicism does follow some stuff that aint nothing to do with christianity my friend
st paul created the non marriage laws for priests not God

God has made man and woman to be together and be fruitful and pro create and have a blessed loving life

st paul in the bible changed the law of non pig and circumcision and not marrying not God

if its good enuff for Gods prophets to marry some even had more than 2 wives and im sure priests can get married too

no offence to catholics but thats what it is, thats why alot of priests make mistakes
like the occasional fondle and paedos etc just a minority but u see why, their depriving themselves of something natural like marriage and shagging

and also the confession but i think its alot of garbage, only God forgives and no offence thats the part i do agree with the protestants

sin all week and confess on sunday and go abck to normal till next sunday

these are the issues they should look at and dont follow pagan mithraic teachings, thats what the mithraics used to do and its their laws inside the catholic religion now

its a wonderful and moral religion if they can sort out these problems it will be brilliant and also God doesnt like idols or statues in his churches either, thats another thing i do agree with protestants too its in the bible

I just dont see why they should change it at the demand of todays lefty/PC culture?

If the people who dont stick to it want to carry on then just dont be a catholic anymore?

i agree but they should at least changed the laws that have nothing to do with christianity mate

did u know the last 30 yrs the british muslims have chucked out non islamic laws and practices out of the mosques and muslim homes

coz it had nothing to do with the islamic religion but cultures from the middle east to asia and africa to russia

and its still happening till this day, when british born scholars are taking over the mosques and replacing the pakistani or indian sub continent imams who had no education over primary 4 and had no qualifications of being scholars

and the same happens in all religions

like the stuff i mentioned, its got nothing to do with christianity but all to do with st paul

and God has given man to change with the times when it comes with problems like aids

and how can u stop a man using a condom or a couple using contraception when aids in africa is on the loose

thats got to do with common sense

and when God in the bible says their shall be no idols , paintings aka graven images in Gods temples, and st paul says the opposite , what does it have to do with christianity my friend

yes im anti pc my friend, their worse than anything else, their scum, they just want to forward their socialist agenda and abolish everything to suit themselves

the background of it all is something I have no real knowledge on and to be honest, no real interest in! So Im probably not in a position to be able to even discuss it.

I know what your saying, times change and all that.

Just this guy from the Catholic church seemed quite adamant that why should they change the religion just because of the more modern/western approach to life? I think he is within his rights tbh.

No one wants to criticise anything anymore though! ;)

I totally understand your point mate. Was just interesting seeing it from the side of the clergy (are they clergy or is that a christian term? lol!).

its cool i dont know what clergy means i left school at 15 , a good glaswegian boy who makes glasgow prouder for not knowing what clergy means

just checked

Clergy \Cler"gy\, n. [OE. clergie, clergi, clerge, OF. clergie, F. clergie (fr. clerc clerc, fr. L. clericus priest) confused with OF. clergi['e], F. clerg['e], fr. LL. clericatus office of priest, monastic life, fr. L. clericus priest, LL. scholar, clerc. Both the Old French words meant clergy, in sense 1, the former having also sense 2. See Clerk.]

[1913 Webster]

1. The body of men set apart, by due ordination, to the service of God, in the Christian church, in distinction from the laity; in England, usually restricted to the ministers of the Established Church. --Hooker. [1913 Webster]

2. Learning; also, a learned profession. [Obs.]

[1913 Webster]

Sophictry . . . rhetoric, and other cleargy. --Guy of Warwick. [1913 Webster]

Put their second sons to learn some clergy. --State Papers (1515). [1913 Webster]

3. The privilege or benefit of clergy. [1913 Webster]

If convicted of a clergyable felony, he is entitled equally to his clergy after as before conviction. --Blackstone. [1913 Webster]

Benefit of clergy (Eng., Law), the exemption of the persons of clergymen from criminal process before a secular judge -- a privilege which was extended to all who could read, such persons being, in the eye of the law, clerici, or clerks. This privilege was abridged and modified by various statutes, and finally abolished in the reign of George IV. (1827).

and muslims dont have a pope my friend and no priest either just imams or alams :)

imams being teachers and alams meaning scholars , higher than an imam someone with authority to issue fatwah and also can be debated with ,with other alams who have more education or wisdom

so the voice doesnt finish just with the one alam, coz he could have used a reference from a different saying in the quran or the prophets sayings and the other alam may know more about those issues and issues his own fatwah to challenge

quite good actually, u should see a fatwah debate between the extremist scholars and the humble moderate ones, what a debate, the best ever bud :) extremist gets his ass kicked all the time :D , but its good to hear both sides arguing

well to be honest, AIDS is caught primarily through promiscuity. When I was at first year Uni I lived with a strong christian (used to do missionary work and fill in for the local priest at times) who was from Africa. He did have differences with Christianity though, similar to what you mentioned above moses, but they were present in all branches of the faith (well, you could call them sects). Within two months he converted to Islam.

By almost the end of the (academic) year the news had reached him that almost 1/3 of the friends he knew from his school/college before he left to UK had died from AIDS. In such instances, even circumcision would be a good thing, as it is a well known fact that it's harder to catch AIDS if one is circumcised. Unfortunately, the Christian faith has had this act negated from its scriptures...something that could have saved many lives.
