Hi everyone...
I really really need some help and would appreciate any advice as I have exhausted all the avenues I can think of...
Ok so... I have an Evo 8Mr... My calipers were really badly worn so I took my car to a local garage that I use often (not evo specialist) where they agreed to remove my calipers and send them off to a specialist calliper rebuild company then once they got them back they put them back on for me. In the process they advised me if I wanted to do some upgrades then now would be a good time. So they fitted metal braided hoses (they sourced it) and they recommended I put uprated brake fluid dot 4 I think in the system to enhance brake performance.
Once I got the car back the brakes really are so much better...
But 2 weeks later some different problem started and I don't know if there is a link but it's just too much of a coincidence..
I was driving and my car randomly refused to go into 4th gear..
So I thought I did take it to the garage and the mechanic some how managed to get it to go into 4th again.. Which was a relief!
In the process I thought I did have the gearbox and transfer box oil changed so I did that - and no p metal pieces or anything were found.
Now even though 4th gear was sorted I was faced with a another problem...
If I am at red lights and I put into neutral and release the clutch soon as I press the clutch back in and want to engage first gear, it just won't do it unless I put it into 3rd let it move forward a bit then get it into 1st.. The other thing that will get it into 1st is if I pump the clutch a few times.. Reverse and 2nd is impossible too..
So after reading and asking many people I discovered that the clutch and brake system share the same reservoir and I know my local mechanic didn't change the clutch fluid with new fluid and possible in the process some air may have got into the clutch system. So I decided to take my car to another garage that knows evo's reasonable well to have the clutch bled with the new unrated fluid and to make sure no air was in the system. They also adjusted my clutch rod... But no luck...
Really need some help as I really don't know what's wrong... And I don't want to end up forking out big money such a new clutch and gearbox rebuild- for something that could be an easy fix.
My current clutch I have only done 10k miles to which I never do track days or launches only just some fun when joining a motorway at 5Am in the morning!!
It just all seem to have occurred close to when I got callipers done and seems all to coincidental that I'm now having gear problems..
Can anyone give me suggestions on what I could try?
Could it have been the process of upraised brake fluid being put in and clutch left with old oil? Is there a pattern in the way the brake callipers should be bled??
Ohhhh I don't know!! Please help!!
Thanks in advance..
