I was going through some Jap performance car sites, and I saw two cars that had 3.5 (Blitz R348 was one of them) or bigger exhaust pipes. It seems that for most turbocharged applications, 3 is the best, but what about 3.5 or bigger? Anyone care to explain?

Apparently I was told bigger size tend to lose pick up but gain top end.
Smaller size is other way round...

It has to do with the engine size. A 3 pipe might be okay for a 2 litre at 20 psi, but not for a 3 litre at 20 psi, as the total volume of air is greater.
