Hi, new to forum, I have number 33, ex Lance Bradley car with reupholstered interior with orange accents.

I am curious to know though why it appears as an fq360 on car checker and hpi websites?

Congrats on the car!

Yes it can be a bit confusing..

As far as I understand it, all Evo X's came into the UK as a standard 300bhp spec. Some were then badged as FQ300 and sold by Mitsubishi. Others were then upgraded to FQ330 and FQ360 and then registered and sold. To create the FQ400 they took already registered FQ360's and added more parts, body kit power upgrade etc and then sold them as 400's. The problem is that because they were already registered as 360's when insurance companies do searches on the vin and on the log book they show up as 360's not 400's.

To overcome this Mitsubishi keep a list of the vin numbers of the ones upgraded to 400. When the 400s were sold they gave the owners official stamped certificate s to say that it's an official FQ400 car. This certificate should be with the car, if not phone Mitsubishi, give them the vin number and they will send you a copy of the certificate saying it's an official FQ400.

No probs.

It can be a bit difficult to explain this to an insurance company. Given they will always go with what is on the log book not what we explain to them. Best to go with a specialist company. I emailed the explanation to them with a scan of the certificate and the original cost of the car when sold by Mitsubishi, so e 50k. And ensured that they wrote FQ400 on the insurance doc's.

Hi Chaps, I bought the #35 that was up for sale about 6 weeks ago and spend the last month cleaning in up to what an enthusiast would expect, it was a bit untidy but mechanically perfect.
Quick question to the FQ-400 owners, has anyone had a performance pipe made up for one?
Sadly the car need to be de-tuned for export as we don't have 98 fuel in South Africa and I'm not running the car on OB permanently, especially with a Zippo fuel tank (I'd need a box of the stuff). However it is the land of zero emission control, massive open roads and mostly friendly cops - so the cat is going and wanted to get a better cat back exhaust system.

Have you thought about taking to an exhaust specialist as a few will make while you are there. I haven't seen any off the shelf.

All x400s come with a " 3 inch turbo back (stainless steel) janspeed performance exhaust system with a "metalic" high flow sports cat.

Very strange laws they have in south africa

I have a decat pipe arriving this week, will put it on and see how it sounds. The previous owner decat the car and then put a cat back on for the MOT but its 2,75" pipe on a 3" system, its definitely not the original.

Nothing wrong with the laws in South Africa, spirited driving can easily be resolved by "a donation to the traffic officers church" or taking him for a drive :)

I would like a decat pipe to get more sound. The only thing that disappointed me about the 400 after all the reviews saying how loud it was and pops and bangs shooting flames etc... But it isn't that loud and the pops and bangs are tame to say the least...

I like it loud, wake the dead loud..

Any idea what extra power a decated 400 makes with Ecutek remap on UK 99 fuel?

What pops and bangs (induction sound is louder, I did cut a slot in the rad cover to allow the small FQ-400 induction vent to flow straight into the airbox - kinda RAM air) - I also contacted Quicksilver Exhausts, which is what I used on my Audi's and BMW and sound incredible, but sadly they are not tooled for custom pipes. I'm highly reluctant to go the Magnaflow route. Lets get this decat on and see, I'll happily do and before and after.
Before I detune the car for 95 RON :-(

Hi, my evo x fq400 is number 008, you can view some photos on the car registry, I bought the car new and have always owned it, having covered only 7,500 miles in that time. The car has always been black and is and has always been in mint condition, I am a little confused as to why you have listed the car as red, now wrapped white and black, and damaged.

Number 8 is an Orient Red 400. Yours might have had the wrong plaque fitted to the handbrake. Yours won't be the first car to have this mix up.
I have sent you a mail but I feel that your car may actually be number 9 according to Mitsubishi records.
I have sent you 2 VIN numbers, but the second one belongs to #12 which is for sale in Jon Kirkham cars on E7 WRX, so I think yours is the first VIN.

Feel free to mail me back

Thank youmlau1294, I am new to the club and very much enjoying it.
You may have read the reply from evomemtalist to my post and it would seem my car has been wrongly numbered on the handbrake, which is the only means of identification, even the certificate you receive from Mitsubishi only has the vin. Number and original number plate. I am fanatical about everything being right with the car and will keep the forum posted about further developments.
Many thanks to evomentalist for his help.

Mitsubishi UK will confirm the number build via email, I went through the same due diligence when buying #35 (for obvious reasons). They were extremely helpful actually - well impressed.

Something wrong with your 400 then? The original exhaust is by no means quiet, but yes their are louder exhausts out there, but still i can hear mine coming down the road. :)
