Hi all,

I'll be booking my Evo in for her first UK service next week, so apologies if this question has been asked a million times (I tried to search the forum but couldn't find what I was looking for)- Is there anything specific I should ask for or should get checked while it's in?

I'll get a full service, so all fluids including AYC, diffs etc, and a cam belt change, but is there anything else she might need to get checked, considering she's fresh off the boat?

Also are there any specific grades or makes of fluids I should ask for?

On a slightly separate note, The undersealing has already been done (I'll probably get it re done before winter just in case) and just having a Cobra alarm fitted today, but as she's completely standard, I've started thinking I might leave the speedo/ odometer in Kilometres, just to keep it as unmolested as possible. Is there anything else I might need to address that anyone could suggest? I want to make sure I take as good a care of her as I can.

Cheers guys,

Well a full service should do the job, sparkies AYC fluid etc.

If its already been undersealed you might consider cavity wax as well.

It won't stay that 'standard' forever I think  Just replace bit that wear out with better (like silicone hoses) looks great. I wouldn't leave it in Km/h unless you put some marks on the speedo for mile equivalents.

Whereabouts are you so people can advise where to get the work done?

Well im gonna try a digital gps speedo for a while, see if i get on with it. Im in Swindon, i am struggling to find local places that do brake caliper refurbs actually.

Send them off to either Ian Godney (Godspeed) in Wales or the Brake Caliper Specialists (BCS). BCS also do a paint kit you can do yourself if the actual calipers are fine and just cosmetic. You can buy the brembo logos from MLR online shop.

My local specialist Mtisi Art do them as a swap out service now as well.

Swindon - book in for the MLR stand at JDM Castle Combe on June 10th bud!

Cool I'll look into that then, cheers mate.

Yeah definitely gonna get to Coombe, and also RIAT all things being equal. Also got the car into the 'classic' car exhibition at the Abingdon Airshow in a few weeks too :)

I really wanted to do Japfest this weekend too but My V isn't going to be ready in time and sadly I don't have enough free time this weekend anyway now, but I'll definitely be looking out for other local/ regional events and meets going forward!

Cheers,

is it an evo specialist doing your service? For the AYC service and cambelt (with balance belt) ideally it needs to be someone with the right tools and knowledge

Stu
Well I've not booked it yet, but the place I was going to go for is a general Jap car specialist. They use proper OEM/ Mitsi parts, and they know all the right fluids etc to put in it, but I've written down a list of fluids from the servicing guides from this site to make sure the ones they are going to use are the ones recommended on here.

They are used to servicing evo's, although I didn't ask what marks but hopefully that wont make too much difference? AYC oil is AYC oil right?

Only ask as to do the AYC properly, they need the right tools to activate the AYC, thats not run of the mill equipment. Its generally something :mitsi: or evo specialists have

Have you protected the seals before undersealijf?

Lately ive seen that people just spread the black thing underneath and thats job done, incluiding some dealers from this website

And when they remove the underseal surprise, rust everywhere

Hi mate,

The car was undersealed as soon as it got to the UK but that was before I bought it so I dont know the details unfortunately. As others have suggested I'm going to see about getting a cavity wax but I was planning on getting it undersealed again before the winter anyway so I'll make sure it's done right!

If you are planning to do it right, it maybe worth cleaning off the underseal from the known rot spots on evos, give you an idea of condition underneath the present underseal. Just putting more on wont help if the existing underseal is covering rust. Just thinking now is the time to be sure before you start spending money on cavity wax and underseal
