Hi all,

Been a long term lurker on the MLR but never created an account. I currently don't own an evo but looking to get one in a years time and I can't believe how much they appear to have risen in price.

I randomly had the urdge to get a grey evo viii mr and thought that £12k should get a clean low mileage car but I can't believe how wrong I am, seems £15k is the going rate.

I would be looking to use the car as a daily, fed up with troublesome diesels and apart from fuel and rust evo's seem relatively reliable.

Thanks for having me and I'll keep an eye in the forsale section.

Happy new year

Hello and welcome to the mlr as long as you keep on top of them servicing ect not a lot do go wrong but when you get bitten by the evo bug mods ect you better have deep pockets it's easy to say I'll leave it standered and don't want to mess with it but when the bug bites it bites hard as most will tell you good luck but if I were you I'd buy from this site privately or through traders on hear forget eBay and sites like that and if your looking at getting from trader outside the mlr find out from the lads on hear if there any good as I said good luck hope you get what you want:smthumbup

I ended up going for a 9, looked at MR's but I think going for rarer cars might limit the market if they do rise in price. Also you want to be able to drive it, modify it and enjoy it without worrying too much about affecting value.

Keep looking and go and view some when your ready, the buyers guide on here is quite solid and if you can find one that's been maintained by a specialist you should be able to get a fair picture of what the cars history and condition is...

Oh and buying from a member doesn't guarantee it'll be perfect, check through people's post history to see if old issues have been fixed or if they've been looking for expensive spares and given up and decided to flog it instead!

Good luck and welcome!

Thanks for the advice and warm welcome guys and thanks to whoever moved my post to the correct section lol I didn't look hard enough to see the newbie area.

That's all great advice, I read on here the other day that Evos do pass a lot of owners due to their nature so majority will be known to someone on here.

They are all great cars but it's gotta be a grey MR for me, I'm probably the only person in the planet that thinks this but I think they look very similar to fighter jets in that colour.

I know everyone says it but I'll be happy with 380bhp, I have other cars as toys where I'll get my power fix, the evo will be a better car in other areas though.

Thanks Adam

Cheers lads, had a look at for sale ads over the last year on here and seems grey is pretty rare, prices are all over the shot though.

If you are looking to get one in a years time the chances are a good example might actually have gone up in value, what £15k buys you now might not necessarily buy the the same in 12 months time.

Welcome to the MLR :smthumbup

As you have said the prices of some Evo's are varied at the moment. Evo prices across the board are rising steadily now. I can't see this trend stopping.... With the price rises in mind it's a shame your not looking to buy into Evo ownership now rather then in a year's time.

Good luck with your search though & def let us know when you have found something your interested in to purchase :smthumbup.... Your get plenty of good helpful advice on here from other members in all Evo related things:smthumbup

Thanks for the replies guys, unfortunately my health took a beating last year I'm only back at work a month so got a lot of saving to do plus I have other projects that need my money so I reckon it will be a year unfortunately lol. I'll just have to tease myself in the mean time.

Gives me loads of time to learn a bit about the cars I suppose and for that this is the place to be.

Welcome along m8
What part of the country are you from?

There is plenty good cars about, it's just finding the right one and in good condition and history

Dependand on your age and previous car history I wouldn't even rule out a 260 as a base, that is if you like the look of the 8

There normally cheaper to insure and also give s good base to start

All I would say is if you do see a car you like, post up on here it's reg and details, as someone on here will either 1.previously owned it or 2,know a bit of history on it

Hi mate,

I'm from South Lanarkshire, Evos certainly have a good following north of the border. I understand fully where your coming from, I know all Evos are good bases and all share a similar platform but unfortunately I've never been into the FQ models all that much, it's the chrome lights and seats ect that put me off and although you can buy and change them I'm not wanting to do that. Plus the MR is the only model to feature the stunning gun metal paint work.

I currently own a stage 3 2wd saph cosworth and have bought another shell to build up and restore, as much as I love cossies and the sudden rush of boost, you just can't use them everyday or leave them parked anywhere. This is where I'd like an evo to come along and join my mini collection as I reckon it would deliver the same buzz but with less drawbacks. I wanted an Impreza but went in my mates 470bhp hawkeye and although it's a very capable good all-round car, it just wasn't for me.

Thanks Adam

You are not to far away then :smthumbup

A lot of people have the same opinion about the 260s etc so it's normally the first things to go

Eg look at the one mg autos have forsale in the trader section at the bottom of the page :smthumbup

Bit pricey but a well known good one will save you some ££ in the long run

Lots of dodgy traders about to, so always ask before you jump in :)

Where's the pics of the cossy:handsup: :smthumbup

If your on facebook we have a page evo meets events scotland to for local mlr guys, bit easier to put faces to names that way if your on there

I hate being new to stuff lol I've clearly got loads to learn, are you allowed to list the dodgy traders on here or is that slander ect? Preferably I'll see a car on here anyway.

Not got facebook mate, will the meets still get posted on here aswell?

I've got new suspension and brakes to fit to her before I go to the Nurburgring this year.....

Cheers Adam
