Hi guys, my name is Steve and i'm currently reading up about evo's. I've been to view a couple of 6's and an 8 MR ( i think i prefer the 6 ) .
I'm not quite ready to buy just yet as i need to sell my current 'fun' car which is a supercharged VX220, but as spring approaches i expect the VX to sell for around £11k which will give me a budget of about £10k to buy an evo and 1k in the bank as a contingency fund for any unexpected bills.
I've so far learned lots through reading on here and other places and realise the costs involved in maintaining an evo properly, it will be a fun car only as i run a corsa as a daily  so i can live with the fuel economy and 4500mile services. My only real worry is the corrosion issue , i've seen some real horror stories of cars that look A1 from above but are rotters underneath and i really want to avoid one of these as the evo will be a long term keeper and put away in a garage each winter and brought out only in good weather.
anyway just wanted to say hi and i'll continue lurking until i sell the VX and go evo hunting :smthumbup

Good luck - I would start looking at importers for a VI now to be honest. SVA Imports, Torque GT and DCY Europe all MLR traders.

Either that or buy one that someone on the MLR has really looked after or restored well body wise.

Look on the homepage there is an Evolution Owners/Buyers guide to download and answer a lot of things.

Cheers, i paid a visit to DCY a couple of Months ago to view a white VII , i liked the car but i wasn't in a position to buy right away, i asked for a test drive ( so i could get a feel for how an evo drives) but as it was damp outside the guys there weren't keen which i totally get but it looked a good one for the money. I think i will go for a fresh import as it is less likely to have rust issues but i wouldn't turn down a well kept UK car either. I have seen some for sale at a place near Skipton ( i'm in Leeds ) called power-play but viewing is appointment only and i don't want to mess them about until i am in a position to buy, has anyone heard of these guys before?

What are Imeka cars like? They seem to post up on here a bit.
Wonder if anyone has had dealings with them.

Not great reports on powerplay over the Internet be careful, as said SVA or Torque GT would be my bet, GLWYS :smthumbup
thanks, i'll take care if i go look at one of their cars then. i've bought a usb powered borescope thing with a 2meter cord so i can get a good look inside the chassis rails of any potential purchase.

I've been in email contact with Jarlath recently about a number of cars over in Japan and he's been super helpful TBH.

I haven't hit the trigger on anything as yet but if I found one I really liked then I could well use him to import it for me. His prices are pretty good too...

Well it's been a while but the VX220 has now sold and i'm excited to say i put a deposit on an Evo 8 MR today :smthumbup:mitsi: the car needs MPH converting and i presume a foglight fitting so i expect to pick her up in about a fortnight but i'm already looking at fancy parts
I also joined up here as a full member and took advantage of the club insurance scheme with PaceWard, had a good chat with Dan who came back with a great quote for me,less than i was paying for my VX220. It was the first time in 23years of motoring that i got off the phone from an insurance agent and felt happy that he/she had listened to me and tailored a policy to meet my needs, the chat then went from insurance to just two guys talking cars and Dan warned me that the evo can be a bit raw but then i explained that after a VX220 it will be like a Bentley
Anyhow it looks like i will be around here much more in the future, look forward to getting to know you all and the car when it's ready.

Nice one good choice of evo where did you end up buying one from..:smthumbup
It's from Motorhub, now i know the stories about the place and went in eyes open but myself and a trusted car friend checked the car from top to bottom and it's very very tidy.

Glad you took someone along I think all of the importers on here get bad press from time to time ,surely the other less well known places must have some decent cars.,can't all be bad .:smthumbup

My thoughts exactly, i took a checklist that i printed off from here, and the car passed every check. We even found all the Japanese history and books in the glovebox, i may try get them translated at some point.
I think the first job when i get the car will be to get it serviced at Evotune and get them to check the AFR's, you never know if the car is truly stock or has previously been messed with in Japan. My eventual goal is to get the car to around 380hp and leave it there.

We all say that at the start :mhihi:

Best of luck with the new motor buddy :smthumbup

As a bit of an update the grey MR at motorhub turned out to be a dog, on the test drive the turbo failed, it leaked coolant all over and the clutch was slipping, no wonder they weren't keen on a test drive until they had a deposit, suffice to say i got my deposit back and left very angry ( i had already waited a month for them to sort the v5 where the car was down as a Lancia ) .
Anyway fast forward to today and i've found the perfect evo at Guy Francis specialist cars, it's a lovely white 6 GSR and it drives spot on, i was so impressed with the car and the service i bought the car there and then. it's away having a fresh MOT and new cambelt/service this week and i collect on Saturday :) can't wait.
