Anybody got any details of the new performance ECU?

from:-

http://www.coordsport.co.uk/

Dated 19th December

Co-ordSport are now able to offer an ECU upgrade for your Lancer Evolution 6.
The kit is a simple replacement ECU for the existing one. The ECU was developed by Ralliart Japan so a quantifiable improvement can be felt.
Priced from only £872.44 inc VAT This offers value for money.

Wonder if it works on the TME

I got this as a reply from an enquiry I made to them:
Thank you for your enquiry.
The Sports ECU is a specially tuned engine management ECU which optimise the air/fuel mixture and ignition timing for improved response and high end power. The cooling fans timing is altered to prevent overheating and maximise performance; to achieve the most benefit from installing this ECU it should be fitted with an improved intercooling piping kit, muffler and free flow air filter. It may also be necessary to install other parts to increase the boost pressure ( we recommend 1.2 - 1.3 bar boost as a maximum and the use of 97 or higher octane fuel ). Higher boost can be controlled with a replacement boost control solenoid ( it may also be necessary to replace restrictor in vacuum pipe ) or a HKS Electronic Valve Controller.
With any increase in output it is often necessary to take precautions . We therefore recommend the use of heavy duty conrod bolts such as the ARP bolts that we have in stock.
It is difficult to predict what horsepower / torque increase would be gained, as this will depend on what boost pressure is being used.

I think given the price you have, which they omitted from their reply to me, I will look at the GEMS unit if I decide to change ECU's.

I have had this ECU on my car for the last 14 months.
One of the odd improvements has been that I have actually improved my fuel consumption when going on track days. Another improvement has been the huge reduction in flameouts. I still occasionally flameout but it is the exception rather than the rule. (This indicated a better mapping that does not run excessivly rich)

If you do not want to 'play' with the car any more than just changing the ECU then I would recommentd it. However the unit is NOT programmable so you will not be able to edit any of the internal settings. About 6 months ago when I was running approx 1.3 bar boost the car achieved approx 340 bhp. If you are going to want to get 400|PLS| bhp then I would suggest the GEMS (as used by Ralliart in the RS450) or a MoTeC unit or any other programmable ECU (Not having any experience of any of them I would not like to comment, however Mark at M.A.D is very knowlwdgable ans should give some good impartial advice)

When Ralliart were at their old location there use to be three companies there, Ralliart, Coordsport and Global Auto's (I cant remember the exact name). Global were a 'Workshop' company at it was they who installed the ECU [supplied by coordsport]

All 3 are one and the same. All 3 still exit - Global specialise in exporting cars now.

My car is booked in to have the Ralliart ECU, boost valve controller and ARP bolts done at the end of this week. I have been told that the car will be running 1.5 bar of boost after the upgrade. - Here come the questions.......

1. When you said that you were running 1.3 bar and 340bhp, what other mods are you running?

2. Also how do you change the level of boost once this kit has been installed?

3. When you say you run 1.3 bar, do you mean it peaks higher and then settles at 1.3? - I need to know this as my boost guage only reads 1.5 bar max and I don't want to bend the needle http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/wink1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

4. My last question is regarding the set up. Should I expect Rallart to use a rolling road to set this stuff up as I don't think it is included (please correct me)

Cheers

Naunt...

A. Full HKS induction and Exhaust

2. Also how do you change the level of boost once this kit has been installed?
A. You Don't !!!. If you want it changed then Ralliart have to do it.

3. When you say you run 1.3 bar, do you mean it peaks higher and then settles at 1.3? - I need to know this as my boost gauge only reads 1.5 bar max and I don't want to bend the needle http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/wink1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >
A. You are correct. I am currently running at 1.25 - 1.3 Sustained and I peak (for about 0.5 second) to 1.5. I would recommend that you change your gauge.

4. My last question is regarding the set up. Should I expect Ralliart to use a rolling road to set this stuff up as I don't think it is included (please correct me)
A. Ralliart normally do their proving on normal roads. They probably can use a rolling road, if you request it, but at additional cost. They also use Bruntingthorpe to test the cars. They charged me GBP 200 last time they tested and set up my car there.

Some general comments.....
I am not going too much in depth as it will take too long.

Firstly, when dealing with Ralliart make sure of the following
i) You know exactly what you want
ii) Ralliart understand what you are after.
iii) MOST IMPORTANTLY... you both understand the same thing.

The definition of words can cause confusion. what is overboost, what is peak and what is sustained.
My car is currently set for 1.5 bar (This is what I requested from Toney) what this means is that my car now peaks to 1.5 and then reduces to a sustained 1.25 - 1.3 bar. [I actually wanted a sustained 1.5, but never mind !!!]

If this is what you want then fine, however is you want a sustained 1.5 then DO NOT GO FOR THE RALLIART SPORTS ECU. I have just had to have a new Turbo fitted { I opted for the titanium insert} and with fitting this has cost approx GBP 2500. the reason for this is that I melted the old one, along with the lambda sensor. The reason for this is that I was running too lean at high revs. The sports ecu cannot cope (fuelling wise) with a sustained boost over 1.3 bar. Ralliart are currently looking into 'add on controllers' to get my fuelling correct for the higher boost (I have also got GpA internal in my engine to take the loading).

Give me a ring is you want a chat - 0789 999 7654

to summarise.... if you will only ever want 1.3 bar then the sports ecu is a nice easy option. If you are ever going to want more then go for an ecu replacement that is fully programmable like a MoTeC or Gems.

Did you fit the HKS Induction kit yourself? If so any English clues the Japanese looks hard to translate. Coordsport/Ralliart recommend the ARP bolts before I fit the kit. Will have to get the thing booked in sometime.
Sounds like a nice spec on your machine!

Fitting the Induction kit is actually very easy. The hardest part is removing the OEM airfilter. Take the filter out of the airbox and you will then have access to all of the nuts/bolts inside the airbox (from memory there were either three or four of them [Keep them])

After that it is fairly straight forward. No other setting up needs to be done, so it is not worth paying to have it done.

Fitted it today - took approx 2 hours. See my webpage http://www.jerryflint.co.uk/EVO%206%20Diary.htm
for details. Just need the bottom end bolts doing and that's my lot - well maybe a new ECU! [img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/biggrin1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

Well my Evo was delivered back on Friday night with the new ECU and ARP bolt kit upgrade completed as promised.

The car is way faster and I am really happy. No fuel cuts at all even though there was a frost out and plenty of moisture in the air. Boost holds at 1.3 and peaks to 1.5 bar http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/happy1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

Once again Ralliart have exceeded my expectations, the car came back on time as promised and spanking clean too. They'll be getting it back come the 9000 mile service.

Now let's see if I can get to the RR day!!

Cheers

Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I hope you don't think I did mind http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/wink1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >

Just checked by credit card statement. I had the Ralliart ECU and ARP bolts fitted for £1730.23p This did however also include £350 for pickup and delivery.

.......They washed it as well [img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/happy1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >
