Ive just had a terrible experience in my EVO, my most embarrasing driving experience to date in fact!
I was a bit bored this morning, so i decided to go for a drive, as you do. I was having a really great time down some local country roads that i know, when i stumbled across a crappy old XR2 (you know the ones, rusty baked bean can shape, c-reg) he was having problems to go round corners so i caught up to him quickly, he was a real MAX GOON puffer jacket, baseball cap, huge exhaust etc so i raced up to him and was gonna show him what a real car could do.
i was planning to overtake him as soon as there was a straight and clear enough road. Anyway the road came along so i floored it expecting to leave him standing, i heard him change down a gear, no problem i thought, I'll still easily overtake him.....But NO! he was accelerating the same as me and then he started pulling away, i was like WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON IVE GOT AN EVO FOR CHRIST SAKES AND THATS AN XR2 all i could do was pull in behind him.
I caught up to him again in the corners and as we started slowing down near the town area i saw a little sign underneath his number plate 330BHP RS Cossie Power i could see he was laughing, i just didnt look at him http://www.lancerregister.com/graphics/embarassed1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle >.
Talk about street sleeper, 330 bhp in something that weighs about as much as an empty tin of spam! imagine the work getting that engine in that car!.
I didnt like those cars before but now every one of them is my worst enemy! Has anything similar (but not as bad surely)ever happened to you guys? or am i alone on this one.

oh well, im off to save for an extreme and then i shall go and find him again.;)

My m8 has been caught out with that before in a heavily modded and very fast Williams Clio. Caught up to a battered old Nova and tried to overtake him. Kerpoww! Nova vanished into the horizon leaving a very strange smell behind him. Pos. Nitrous?

At the end of the day, they are running heaps of ****, fast heaps of **** maybe, but heaps of **** non the less.

Put a corner in the road...they lose out.

Drive down the highstreet...they lose out.

Try to stop...they lose out.

Excellerating away form lights...they lose out.

In short, fast once rolling, provided theres nothing jumps out in front of them, and they dont have to go around a corner!

Rich. :D

i once came up behind a Relliant kitten, you know the 4 wheel version of a relliant robin. i noticed it had a centre exit exhaust that was massive, as i approached a roundabout i thought i would nail it and fly past him ( i was in a 1.9 GTI). up till this point id been p**sing myself at the thought of someone spamming up a car like that. any way as we exited the roundabout i put my foot down but i thought i was going backwards. straight line he killed me this went on for the next 4 rounabouts and straights, he went slowly round, i caught him , he nailed it , i cringed.
some weeks later my m8 showed me a mag with 2 of these Relliants in both had tuned 3500 ltre rover engines in.

I know what you mean!! What is the point of this!?!?!?! Appart from the fact you can almost see though the metal of a mk2 fiesta, think of the work needed get this engine in the bay! Just buy a 1.8 GSR, a cheap evo 1 or maybe even a GTIR. You see adverts all the time...... 1988 Renault 5 GT Turbo £15k spent. £2500 ono.

Surely the Renault 5 is not much better than a standard XR2?

I personally have always gone for the wolf in sheeps clothing. Partly because I can't afford a £2000 car and partly because I like the feeling of blowing away something that cost more. Remember another thread about the guy in his evo pulling away from a Ferrari? Imagine pulling away from a Ferrari in an XR2!!!

I dream of being able to afford an Evo 1, 2 or 3 because they are almost as fast as the later evos and look more subtle. I would then just need some GSR spoilers http://www.lancerregister.com/graphics/Wilk.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| middle >

A few years back (about 12 actually!) a friend bought a Mk1 Escort with a Rover V8 in it. Not standard either. Holley 4-barrel, a pair of heads and a cam. This thing pulled to 7000 revs and would do an indicated 165mph! We once toyed with a BMW M5 on the M2 and the look on the faces of the occupants when we kept up with them. We waited until they had it maxed out and then overtook them. Ahh, pre-camera days.
