Today i was driving on the zandvoort track

after a few track sessions my turbo pressure was totally gone when i increase throttle no turbo pressure but i could hear the turbo wheel spinning at high speed

i drove very slowly into pits and put the car into rest

after a few hours i would try to drive the car very slow to home but was running very badly idle (i hope its the right word)

What has happend is my turbo broke or is it something else

Sounds like a boost hose has come off, and no boost pressure is being held. Eratic idle could be because more air is getting in than the airflow meter thinks. Hope this is the cause, as it will be cheap and easy to fix.

Check out the hose around the air intake and the one that comes up from below. Take it in your hand and try to shake it. If it moves too much, you have to put it back into place and tighten it well.

Same thing happened on an Evo testerday, a hose came loose, the car went bop bop bop at very low rpms, then started jumping .

I agree, definetely sounds like a hose has come loose or off. If you didn't hear a bang it probably means that it's just loose, so tighten all the hoses.

i could hear a very high whistle tone when i increased throttle just when it happend the car was running very well on the track after it happend
only no turbo pressure

but back in the pits when i put engine out and after a few hours the cars runs badly idle how is that possible is that because of the ecu picks up a fault why did the engine run good on the track except no turbo pressure

guys the hose were you talking about is the one that goes into the airbox the thick plastic one that goes then into the turbo is that the only hose which can cause the problem.

If you are hearing more turbo whine then perhaps what has come off is the dump valve. It reintroduces air just before the turbo inlet. It should be pretty obvious.

If you are seeing no boost pressure either the leak is huge or near to the feed for your boost gauge.

You need to follow the path of the ducting from the turbo to the throttle body. Check all connections and you should find the leak.

If a boost hose had blown off u really wud know it , and the engine wud virtually not run , I know because it happened to me :0

What I suspect is that the wastegate actuator has stuck open or the boost solenoid is faulty , these cannot be easily checked visually.

If yr turbo had expired then generally other symptoms wud be evident , such as smoke!

André is a very good (race) friend of mine, his car is at my place now. I've checked all the hoses I can see or feel, but none of them is lose or broken. At the first glimp that is!! I did not check under the car!! remember, there was a high wistle like tone coming from the engine as we ingreased the power. no smoke, no other strange sounds and no more horsepower. It looks and feels like the turbo is blowing her power away in thin air.

my guess is, that it is the escape valve witch is stuck or something like that, please give us more idiees.

Thursday I think the dutch rally dealer from witch we bought the cars is back from sweden ( he is olso our service specialist, trustee, spokesman, light and help in darker days and above all a ver good friend) , than all the mysteries will be solved. Ofcourse andre will let you know the end- result.

But in the mean time it is fun trying to solve the problem with the help of you guy's!!!!

I hope it is not the turbo that failed afterall, that will most certenly damage my trust in the EVO, to put it mildly. Because I know how André drives his car. Never in the redzone!! Always with delicatecy and respect for the material. Always waiting for the wright operating temperatures and always cooling his engine down. if that is the reward for his gentleness then the EVO is not worth us guy's!!!! It must be easy to blow up an engine, but not the way andré is driving.

i talked to an other guy on the karting circuit today and he has owned an evo 6 too he had the same problem with his car but it was no hose he had broken his turbo

This will cost me some money i quess i wish it 's hose

I don’t think that a damaged turbo would cause your car to idle poorly. The symptoms given are more consistent with a leak in the air inlet path downstream of the airflow sensor.

yes i know but if the car runs bad idle that could be that some broken pieces of turbo has gone into the engine and damaged some valves or do i talk stupid now

We checked all the hoses and they are ok we looked into the turbo with a mirror (from air filter side) the turbo looks ok
We started the engine again for 15 seconds the engine runs like a kitten then suddenly just like friday a ticking sound appeard we stopped the engine at once

we had no idle problems

anybody any ideas

so our guess it that the outgoing turbo (titanium wheel) is broke tommorow the car wil be picked we will keep you informed

the guy were i bought my car has checked it out guess what the turbo wheel on the exhaust side has broke car drove 30000 km

is this normal are there more people who had the same problem

Is it a sheared turbine shaft or the impeller itself? I thought that was only supposed to happen if you had no dump valve? What's the history of the car? This would be very surprising on a "normal" use car.

Is yr engine modified?
How has the exhaust wheel actually failed?

Looking to repairs , is yr car a GSR , if so then u cud upgrade to an RS turbo cartridge(the insides of the turbo) , Ralliart in Dudley had a special offer on these recently.

piece have come off the tubine wheel and now the turbine wheel axle has bend too we are now trying to find were the problem is comming from

there must some pieces that went into the turbine wheel to make this happen


my engine is not modified standard engine standard downpipe midsection i have no cat and i have a hayward and scott rear back box thats all

i do not own a GSR i have a lefthand drive RS 2 with a titanium turbo
