Hi, could do with some advice,

about a year ago I got stopped for speeding whilst visiting family in Essex, got caught doing 89mph on a motorway, 3 points and £60.00 fine.

Surrendered licence at local police station (Liverpool) who said it had to be sent to Essex as thats where offence occured.

Paid fine, got my licence back and never thought any more of it, until now.
Insurance due at the end of the month so get licence out to check endorsements and instead of the SP50 I was expecting I have a MW10.

Motorway Offences

MW10 Contravention of Special Road Regulations (excluding speed limits).

Can anyone tell me which is worse to have on your licence from an insurers point of view, the MW10 or a SP50.

Also who do I need to contact to get any mistakes rectified?

Any views or advice greatly appreciated.

Hi pal

get back to the DVLA to varify the offence detail and change accordingly. Do you still have the paperwork you were issued at the scene (code is usually on there too)

speeding like I have been done for doing 90 on M58.
£60 fine SP50

Hi, no temp speed restrictions or roadworks,

I'll have to check to see if I've still got the paperwork to check what code was on it.

I'll give dvla a call, see what they say.

Thanks for the replies.

do some online insurance quotes and see which one puts your premium up the most, mw10 might put it up less.

From what andy has put up and the mw10 saying 'excluding speed limits', I would say the SP50 is the correct one for your situation.

The MW10 seems to cover acts which are or can be deemed dangerous and highly likely to cause harm/death to other users of the carriageway.

MW10 would be therefore a much higher premium.

Definately worth asking the DVLA to clear things up :smthumbup

UPDATE:

Spoke to DVLA and was told that I need to contact the court that dealt with the original endorsement, if they then deem it to be incorrect, they need to inform the DVLA who will then adjust their records.

So I will be contacting Chelmsford Court to see what they say.

PM'd Pace Ward to ask for clarification on which is deemed to be the worse of the two endorsements and Zoe told me it differs from insurer to insurer.

On comparison sites, it seems to come up with the same sort of quote, irrespective of listing the MW10 or SP50.

More digging required!

Thanks again for the replies.

Been in touch with Essex Police today and a very helpful lady told me that there had been a mistake at their end and the wrong data had been inputted, I can send my license back to have the MW10 taken off and a SP50 put on.

Considering a visit to my local solicitor.

Will let you know what happens

Surely it will cost more to get a solicitor involved comparing to paying the fine and insurance differential over the next few years?
