NEW Information on the day here (click me) - please read

MLR World Record Attempt

Firstly I would like to thank everybody for their support and patience since we announced that we wanted to go for this World Record. After several months of negotiations we now have a venue and a date for the record attempt to take place. :jump

Venue - Castle Combe Circuit Date - 12th July 2008

The record attempt is taking place during the weekend of the MLR's Castle Combe Trackday and the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Fairford Air Tattoo so it's a great opportunity to make a weekend of it and watch or take part in the trackday, be a part of the World Record and then visit the Festival of Speed or the air show on the Sunday! This would make a great break away for the family and enable everyone to socialise and have a well deserved beer. We'll post accommodation details later.

World Record & Trackday:
During the day there will be plenty of entertainment with 60 cars (approx 30 EVOs) on the circuit and substantially more in the paddock!!

There will also be several MLR Traders with stands present at the track with top quality parts available, and they've offered a percentage of their sales to the chosen charity. Some of them have mentioned raffling parts for charity as well.

At the end of the track day, all of the cars that are registered for the World Record attempt will drive from the top car park and enter the track via the Paddock. They will then take up their position on the track prior to being given the green light from Guinness for the World Record to be attempted.

World Record Rules:
Guinness have made it clear that the Rules for a successful World Record attempt are Very Strict, and anyone breaking them will not be allowed to take part which means the record attempt could fail.

Rule 1 - There must be no more than 2 car lengths between any vehicles. Therefore we must all drive very slowly and stay as close together as possible. So if you hold back to get a 100ft sprint just for the hell of it - we will lose the Record Attempt!!!! :(

Rule 2 - For cars to be counted they must complete 2 miles on the track.

Once the cars are moving, it will take roughly 20-30 minutes to complete the 2 miles. This means that we may only get 1 shot at this and therefore it must run like clockwork.

Registration:
In order to take part, each entrant must pay a registration fee (charitable donation) of £10 for members and £15 for non members. This will pay for your entry, and also a copy of the World Record certificate, an image of your car taking part in the WR on the day (emailed JPEG) and a unique commemorative decal - all assuming we're successful - which is down to you!

You can book this now through the MLR online shop , or by phoning 0845 12 LANCER (526237) and I'll receive a copy of the order so will know who has booked and enable me to compile a new list and keep track of the numbers.
There is also a donation option in the shop for those who don't have an Evo but would like to make a donation.

Charity:
We intend for every penny of your registration fee will go to the Richard Burns Foundation charity. We'll also be adding any other funds from raffles and trader donations, so hope to achieve a great total for the RBF.

Adjudication:
In order to set a new record we have to pay for an adjudicator from Guinness to be present on the day. The cost of this is £2,000. We also have to cover the cost of his/her travel to the event from London. Therefore if anyone would like to volunteer to bring them from London and take them back afterwards then that would be very much appreciated, and would enable us to keep the costs down and make a bigger contribution to charity.

Promotion & Sponsorship:
We have had offers from some national publications who would like to be involved with the attempt, and hope other companies will offer their services as the World Record gains momentum.

If enough people do not turn up for the World Record attempt. All monies received will still go to The Richard Burns Foundation.

I know some of you are going to say that it is a long way to travel, but this is going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the largest gathering of EVOs, ever, anywhere in the world. Plumplemming is asking if his company can film the record attempt using a helicopter and a number of static cameras, so a DVD will be available should he get permission. The attempt will be covered by one or more national magazines and each entrant will be able to have a copy of the original certificate provided by Guinness. Most importantly, we will be able to raise a lot of money for a worthy cause.

This thread is for information only and for me to list all the registered cars taking part in the World Record attempt, so if you have any queries, or ideas, please feel free to post them on the other World Record Thread . :D

Any questions, feel free to PM me.

Cheers Everyone

Corky :D

Okay everyone, we are testing the water by removing this thread from being a sticky and making it one that people can reply to.

It is however for information and feel free to add info, discuss the attempt or add ideas.

This is not a thread for chit chat though.

Keep it on topic. :smthumbup

If you know anyone who is not on the list, please feel free to PM them with a link to it.
