Mitsubishi Volt Gauge - should it read voltage with ignition off?

Hi,
Just fitted some Mitsubishi Triple Gauges in my E6. However, I'm not sure if the Volt Gauge is wired in correct. When wired to the ignition the needle is midway between 0 - 10 volts. If I connect to battery connection on stereo loom it reads 12volts (car turned off) going up to 14 volts when car is started (turned on).

Which is the correct way please

Cheers

You won't want the gauge on at all times, so wiring it to the ignition wire at the radio would be better. I doubt it's really seeing 5V with the key off, but just to check you might want to get out a voltmeter, it should read zero.
You need to wire it to a +12 switched live, sounds like you have tapped it into the wrong wire.
it should be on zero with the ignition set to off :)

hows the search for the sender going? :D
Exactly that, though I found an ignition source it was the wrong one. All sorted now - thanks for the reply

If only the person who installed the stereo didn't chop off the white loom plug it would have all been very easy. I therefore had to cut the white plugs of my gauge cables  and of course got the problem of marrying up the right wires :wallbang:

:wallbang: hate it when cables have been chopped :(
Hi,

Thanks for asking.

I did manage to get an Oil Temp sensor in the end but had to buy a complete set of gauges off somebody. In the process also ended up with a 1.5bar boost gauge so all's well in the end (proving the sensor works ).

Once I'm happy that all the gauges work (only wired in Volt Gauge so far) I will be selling off a spare set of gauges. I'll probably try and extend all the wires on the surplus gauges now that I have a spare set of white loom plugs

All the best :smthumbup

glad you have one now :smthumbup , sorry you had to buy two in the end :(

I was very lucky :D
