Hi Donald.

Are you competing in anything else this year, or is it a non competitive project year. ?
No just taking a year out and using my annual racing budget to do other projects. Tiddles is in an air conditioned warehouse so she'll be safe.

I might use the legnum to do a local event. We'll see how it goes ;)

One of the projects is to finalise my tubular front subframe so I can supply them over this next winter

I was going to update the thread soon anyway but Kenny kind of spoiled that. After the engine was bedded in on the WP Garage services dyno the intention was to start on some changes to tiddles but with me starting the restoration of the rover sd1 I changed my plans. Am enjoying the rover work and it's nice to not have a mad panic with getting tiddles ready for the start of the season. Once the rover is finished I'll get on with my subframe again then hopefully get tiddles back here later in the summer.

Am toying seriously with a spaceframe silhouette evo so this may be a turning point for tiddles. Fully bespoke chassis and suspension with carbon outer body. Am costing it out just now. It's an option that may or may not happen, it's just an idea for now. I like the idea but it would be a seriously huge project.

Seeing as I've lost almost 4 stone it would be rude not to put tiddles on a serious diet too ;) So Kenny, I might be a w*nker - but not a fat one.... :D

You can always come and do a share drive to keep yer hand in Donald.:smthumbup
There are sometimes some good deals on flights and no problem with accommodation.
Now that sounds good :). I appreciate the offer thank you :smthumbup

I may well take you up on that one time through the season. We'll speak about it later ;)

Would a full tubular space frame save that much weight over a fully stripped out car?

Be awesome if you do go ahead with it to see photo's of how you made it happen.

It depends how it's built. Some make the chassis so it mimics the evo suspension pickup points and keeps the uprights, hubs and macpherson struts and the same rear links etc. This would be heavier than a bespoke chassis with double wishbones and fabricated uprights but easier to build. By moving away from the evo geometry it can be designed from scratch and built much lighter with suspension that's not restricted in its design or operation and the engine can be moved to help weight distribution. Of course the lighter the car is designed to be the lighter all the suspension can be made, so there's ways to lose hundreds of kilos during the build.

A quality 6mm bolt can cary 10 tons in shear and a 1.5mm wall 25mm tube can carry the same if the load is directed along its length. It's very easy to over engineer everything.

I would aim for 600kg but I think it could be done lighter if it's fully thought out before starting the metalwork.

The plan would be to keep the twin charger at the power it is and use the abundance of power to push massive wings through the air for huge downforce :)

When I see the likes of Steve Marr's Saxon hillclimb car I'm amazed at the attention to the weight of every part. This is the car designed by Martin ogilvie to be the lightest hillclimb car in the world, and it is - at only 220kg with all fluids. Plenty good ideas in cars like this ;)

Update - hillclimb related but not with tiddles.

As per posts above John dunne kindly offered me a double drive in his evo 5 at Val Des Terres hillclimb on guernsey. The hillclimb was today, glorious sunshine 24c, couldn't have asked for better weather :D

Having never been here, seen or driven the hill I took it easy on the first practice 38.02 over the line. The hill is quite difficult to learn and with only 4 runs I got down to a 36.77s for 3rd in class :).

John took first in class with a 35.02s run. Well done John :smthumbup

Great day of hillclimbing after a year away. Huge thanks to John for his hospitality and shot of his evo :smthumbup

I spectated at Bouley Bay hillclimb on jersey on Thursday and made a wee holiday of it . That's 2 hills on my list to take tiddles to - absolutely great hills! :D

Photos and videos to follow later in the week.

Was certainly consistent on the launches with both of us in the low 1.9s bracket ........ (with no aids)
Not sure the tyres enjoyed being hammered by both of us though.:D
I was warming the tyres for you
