Off to Lake Louise (canadian rockies) this saturday for two weeks with my girlfriend and our friends from cardiff, cant wait..... :) !!

It will be my second skiing trip to the rockies in the last few years and what a place!, ive mainly skied in France and Austria but Canada is the place to go IMO, huge areas to ski, no queues for the lifts, very friendly people and guaranteed snow! (unlike Europe at the moment).

Any other keen skiers out there? Going this winter?........ :)

Ive not been skiing since 03, before that i used to go yearly. Would love to get back into it, its just having mates that are willing to take a few weeks out to go somewhere decent like canada / usa..

Its a bit like dh mountain biking, each and every year i say i wanna get back into it but it never seems to happen..hmm..

Canada is excellent, so is most of USA!

I'm going on the 21st to Pila (small quiet resort in Italy) to gie myself a warm up week on my new skis then i'm away to Obergurgl in Austria on the 3rd of Feb.
I'm hoping to get away to Morzine too this season but i'm too busy at work :(

I've been to Pila skiing before but it was a good few years ago now. Was quite good from what I remember.

Nah boardings for all ages. Or is it that the cool kids have started to grow up now lol.

Freestyle skiings making a big breakthrough though with the introduction of new and better twin tip technology. Just lets these skier ponces find out what theyve been missing being able to go in both directions and try some more "interesting" moves :p

Some really good back country and generally a nice resort. There are quite a few satellite resorts around it too which give a big area. Not generally much in the way of a park though (not that Meribel does either). Don't bother with the tunnel/wall as the skiers ruin it with moguls! Sarenne is cool as long as the snow is there (18km run!). Les 2 Alpes is just up the valley and a much better resort for boarding though (and nightlife!).

Great thnx for the heads up

I think Les 2 Alpes was also on our list (on a bit of a budget this year) as it seemed pretty reasonable, compeared to Meribel that is!

Les 2 Alpes is my favourite place in the Alpes :D The boarding is great (3 boarder X tracks, big pipe, rail park, kicker park + some manmade but natural areas for playing on). The night life is cool & not too over priced (cheap compared to Meribel!).

If you go, take a GPS to the Super Diable on a day when it's just been pisted (ask the lifties, it doesn't get done every night) and see if you can top 80.6 ;) :D

Also, don't bother riding down at the end of the day unless the snow is really thick in resort - it's pap! Take a lift down every time :)

I been to Alpe d'Huez twice and throughly enjoyed it both times. It is a very quiet resort if your talking nightlife but has some challenging terrain and some excellent restaurants.

As Fish Money says the 'tunnel' run is full of moguls and is good fun (if your a skier), the 'sarenne' is (i think) the longest run in europe and great for both skiers and boarders, i went with a mixed group of skiers/boarders and we all enjoyed it.

I believe the snow in the Alpes is getting better.... ;)

Check with the travel agent about the photo, some resorts do and others don't!

Most European one's don't now as they use the credit card style passes that just need to stay in your pocket, automatically opening the barrier when you ski up to them.

Fingers crossed the weather will cool down and there will be more snow, my borther is in Flaine this week and has said up top is great but the lower slopes are really slushy due to high temps and rainfall - 10 degrees C the other day!

80.6mph or kmph?
Im thinking its mph  ive done 91kmph in lake louise, and that was fast as ****.
Reckon i can get faster as that was only reds and blues, the blacks in CA seam to be just very bad conditioned reds.
Have been to 2 alps but when we did super diable it was erm lacking in snow

i know its on the other side but its the only pic i have of the conditions

I went to Banff for a week before xmas, of to tignes on the 20th for a week and off to Tahoe for 34 days in Feb :D :headbang2

MPH, thought it'd be amusing to see if anyone noticed :D I'm borrowing a really big board for this year's trip there to see if I can up it a bit  :D

The Super Diable is the top section of that run. The lower section is just called the Diable. With the snow in the conditions you've shot the bottom bit would be awful but I would expect the really fast bit still to be OK. It's pretty sheltered from the sun.

Nice plans - I'm not jealous at all!

I don't think 2 Alpes have moved to swipe cards yet so get a photo over here - much cheaper and no waiting around on your first morning :D

Tahoe is excellent, i went there about 6 years ago and stayed in the Horizon casino, lovely hotel (i was too young to gamble though!) and a large Ski area with good links between California and Nevada.
Lucky Bar Steward!
