You can but you have to have it under 30 secs or something, theres a proper way of doing it but its a pita i think.

Have a look on youtube im sure there will be a vid showing how to do it.

With a jailbroken iphone unlimitones gives you any ringtone in seconds :smthumbup
paul, i was being told that only ,music bought through itunes on the phone can be used as ringtone, never tried it myself though.
just search for the song you want on itunes on your phone, scroll down and 99% of the time there is a ringtone for it.
you have to convert the song to ring tone format. its gay. apple are gay. but unique in what they create.

iPhoneRingToneMaker v2.5.1 on windows allows you to do it but only limits you to 30 seconds.

Load your song select which part of the song you want and click done & you load it into iTunes like all your other stuff
I downloaded an app called Ringtone Maker Pro from the App Store, think it was 59p. Does what you want it to do and you can select the section of song you want, fade in/fade out etc. It's not bad :smthumbup

Apple take the **** though really...almost any other phone would let you use an mp3 from your phone as a ringtone, but no...Apple have to try and squeeze more money out of you
I do mine by plugging into pc/ laptop clicking on iTunes when it opens up click on the song you want-right click, click on info then go to the bit that gives start and stop time reduce song to 29secs then when it's done click of then right click again click on
Convert to aac file I think it's called which will then copy the song and duplicate it then drag the duplicated song to your desktop screen then delete the duplicate in iTunes of the song, then right click on the song on your desktop and click rename or if the wording highlights and box goes around the song for example lady gaga mp3a and delete the a from the mp3a replace with r so it reads mp3r this should then bring up a warning saying you are changing file type click yes or ok then drag and drop the song back into your iTunes and sync all being well you will have a ring tone
