Hi all

I have been talking to a few people that own different evos`and i am still a little unclear which evo i should get.

It seems that people rate the evo 6,7,8 but a lot of people dont like the evo 8 for some reason,i think its down to the gearbox.

So am i right in saying that i should get the 7 or should i go for the FQ range?

What do you all think?

I would buy an 8 over the 7 if thats the body type you like (as opposed to the 4/5/6).

The Evo 8 'MR' models are the ones to have, but command higher second hand values than the non 'MR' models.

As for the gearbox, isnt it the 6 speed box that alot of people dont like, as the 5 speed is fine?

I had this choice, went for the 8mr in the end mainly due to the fact it was the newest, least mileage and had most warranty, there was also not alot of difference in the prices considering the difference in age/miles etc.
The insurance was also quite alot cheaper aswell on a Uk car which is nice :D
The gearbox is poor though, though its supposed to get better with miles and mine does seem to be improving.

I think that you have hit the nail on the head really i am so confused as to which 1 to get.

The more you know the less you understand.

Best thing you can do really is to go and drive a few examples of each car and see which one feels right for you.
That sounds like top advice :)

Everyone will have a different opinion on what is best, depending on what they own :D I would obviously say buy a Mak. :coolsm:

Hi

I have found a evo8 fq330 with 13k miles first reg 1 may 2003.

They are asking £19,995 which sound well cheap to me so i am falling in love with it all ready.

It is in black and un modifed so i am going to book a test drive some time next week hopefully.

I think that i am going to go for an evo 8 but i have not yet totally decided.

Thanks a lot for your help people.

I think the 6 speed used in the MR got some bad press. Not sure if it was for a slower gearchange speed compared to the classic 5 speed box

The only MR with a 5 speed box is an RS model :p

Try driving a few different models, and see what you like best is the first port of call.

But ultimately it comes down to this if you are brutally honest about the whole thing. Quite simply it doesn't really matter. Buy the best presented, lowest mileage and best cared one you can find and most importantly afford, regardless whether it is a IV, V, VI or even all the way up to a IX. They are all good.

Remember though. Even if you buy a new IX from a dealer, or a £9,000 IV privately. There are all £30,000 cars running cost wise. ;)

Hi

I have owned my 99 sti 300bhp for 4 years now and i would say that i dont find it too expensive really given the fact that you have a high performance car.

Are you trying to tell me that running an evo will cost a lot of money?if so what will take most of the cash?

I have my heart set on the fq330 that i posted on this thread but i have not driven it yet so i cant get that excited.

You lot are right in saying that i should test drive a few different models to see which one i like the best, but it comes down to the best kept, lowest mileage, colour, and also the money you have to spend on the car.

If your like me then Optimax ;) ;) ;)
Personal choice again, the newer one's are better than the older one's thats why it's an Evolution.
I went from an VIII to a VI (long story) I wouldn't swop my VI for an VIII, not cos it's a better car, (it isn't, the VIII was more smoother) It's cos I just prefer the car I've got now..Even I;m confused now    ;)

Ian..
